Translation of the meanings Ayah: (67) Surah: Al-Baqarah
وَإِذۡ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوۡمِهِۦٓ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَأۡمُرُكُمۡ أَن تَذۡبَحُواْ بَقَرَةٗۖ قَالُوٓاْ أَتَتَّخِذُنَا هُزُوٗاۖ قَالَ أَعُوذُ بِٱللَّهِ أَنۡ أَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡجَٰهِلِينَ
67. 'Recall' when Moses said to his people: "Allāh commands you that you should slaughter a cow22. They said: "Do you take us in ridicule?" (Moses) said: "I seek refuge by Allāh, that I should be an ignorant."
22. As atonement for an unsolved murder. The slaughter of the cow was also intended to cut off their hearts from the love of worshiping the calf. The problem wasn't only the murder, but their idolatry.
