Translation of the meanings Surah: Ar-Rahmān   Ayah:

Ar-Rahmān

ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ
1. Allah (God) the Most Compassionate,
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
عَلَّمَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ
2. Taught the Qur’an,
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ
3. Created man,
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
عَلَّمَهُ ٱلۡبَيَانَ
4. Taught him intelligible speech.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
ٱلشَّمۡسُ وَٱلۡقَمَرُ بِحُسۡبَانٖ
5. The sun and moon rotate in a predestined orbit.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
وَٱلنَّجۡمُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ يَسۡجُدَانِ
6. The herbs¹ and trees (submit and) prostrate (to Him).
1. Another meaning of 'najm' is the stars.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
وَٱلسَّمَآءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ ٱلۡمِيزَانَ
7. The sky, He (Allah) raised it high, and set up everything with balance.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
أَلَّا تَطۡغَوۡاْ فِي ٱلۡمِيزَانِ
8. So that you would maintain justice.

وَأَقِيمُواْ ٱلۡوَزۡنَ بِٱلۡقِسۡطِ وَلَا تُخۡسِرُواْ ٱلۡمِيزَانَ
9. Maintain just measure, and do not make the measure deficient.

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَضَعَهَا لِلۡأَنَامِ
10. The earth, He has placed it for the living creatures -

فِيهَا فَٰكِهَةٞ وَٱلنَّخۡلُ ذَاتُ ٱلۡأَكۡمَامِ
11. Therein are all kinds of fruits and palms having sheathed clusters (of dates),

وَٱلۡحَبُّ ذُو ٱلۡعَصۡفِ وَٱلرَّيۡحَانُ
12. Grain with (its) husk and aromatic herbs.

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
13. (Oh Jinn and mankind) which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?

خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِن صَلۡصَٰلٖ كَٱلۡفَخَّارِ
14. He created man (i.e., Adam) from dry clay like earthen vessels,

وَخَلَقَ ٱلۡجَآنَّ مِن مَّارِجٖ مِّن نَّارٖ
15. And He created the Jann¹ (Iblees, father of the Jinn) from a smokeless flame of fire.
1. Muhammad, God's messenger (ﷺ) said: "Angels were created from light, jinn (i.e., Satan) were created from a smokeless flame of fire, and 'Adam was created from that which you have been told (i.e., sounding clay like the clay of pottery)."

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
16. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
رَبُّ ٱلۡمَشۡرِقَيۡنِ وَرَبُّ ٱلۡمَغۡرِبَيۡنِ
17. (Allah is) the Lord of the two sunrises and Lord of the two sunsets².
2. I.e., the points of sunrise in the east and sunset in the west in both summer and winter.

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
18. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
مَرَجَ ٱلۡبَحۡرَيۡنِ يَلۡتَقِيَانِ
19. He has let the two seas (the salt water and fresh water) meet each other,
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
بَيۡنَهُمَا بَرۡزَخٞ لَّا يَبۡغِيَانِ
20. (Yet) between them is a barrier so that they will not merge totally.

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
21. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
يَخۡرُجُ مِنۡهُمَا ٱللُّؤۡلُؤُ وَٱلۡمَرۡجَانُ
22. There come forth from them pearls and coral.

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
23. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
وَلَهُ ٱلۡجَوَارِ ٱلۡمُنشَـَٔاتُ فِي ٱلۡبَحۡرِ كَٱلۡأَعۡلَٰمِ
24. By His Command, the ships³ with raised masts sail on the sea like mountains.
3. Which became possible only by His Power and Grace.

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
25. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
كُلُّ مَنۡ عَلَيۡهَا فَانٖ
26. Everyone on earth is destined to die.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
وَيَبۡقَىٰ وَجۡهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو ٱلۡجَلَٰلِ وَٱلۡإِكۡرَامِ
27. The Noble Face of (Allah) your Lord, Glorified and Honored will abide forever.

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
28. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
يَسۡـَٔلُهُۥ مَن فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ كُلَّ يَوۡمٍ هُوَ فِي شَأۡنٖ
29. All those who are in the heavens and the earth ask of Him; every day He (Allah) is bringing about some matter⁴.
4. Such as the giving of life, the bringing of death, exalting and abasing individuals, giving abundantly and withholding, responding to a supplicating person and giving the one requesting, etc.

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
30. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
سَنَفۡرُغُ لَكُمۡ أَيُّهَ ٱلثَّقَلَانِ
31. Soon we will ttend to you, O you two multitudes (of mankind and jinn).

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
32. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
يَٰمَعۡشَرَ ٱلۡجِنِّ وَٱلۡإِنسِ إِنِ ٱسۡتَطَعۡتُمۡ أَن تَنفُذُواْ مِنۡ أَقۡطَارِ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَٱنفُذُواْۚ لَا تَنفُذُونَ إِلَّا بِسُلۡطَٰنٖ
33. O assembly of jinn and men, if you are able to pass through the diameters of the heavens and the earth, then pass; you cannot pass through except with authority.

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
34. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
يُرۡسَلُ عَلَيۡكُمَا شُوَاظٞ مِّن نَّارٖ وَنُحَاسٞ فَلَا تَنتَصِرَانِ
35. There shall be sent against you both, smokeless flames of fire and molten brass. You will not be able to protect yourselves.

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
36. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فَإِذَا ٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتۡ وَرۡدَةٗ كَٱلدِّهَانِ
37. When the heaven is split asunder, and becomes rose colored like red hid⁵.
5. That is when the Day of Resurrection occurs.

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
38. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فَيَوۡمَئِذٖ لَّا يُسۡـَٔلُ عَن ذَنۢبِهِۦٓ إِنسٞ وَلَا جَآنّٞ
39. On that Day neither man nor jinn shall be asked about his sin⁶.
6. Because they are already known. They will only be interrogated as a form of punishment.

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
40. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
يُعۡرَفُ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ بِسِيمَٰهُمۡ فَيُؤۡخَذُ بِٱلنَّوَٰصِي وَٱلۡأَقۡدَامِ
41. The wicked will be recognised by their marks and they will be seized by their forelocks and their feet (then will be cast into Hellfire).

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
42. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
هَٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِي يُكَذِّبُ بِهَا ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ
43. This is Gehinnom (Hell), which the wicked denied.

يَطُوفُونَ بَيۡنَهَا وَبَيۡنَ حَمِيمٍ ءَانٖ
44. They will go round between it and hot boiling water.

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
45. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
وَلِمَنۡ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ جَنَّتَانِ
46. For him who fears the standing (for account) before his Lord are two gardens.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
47. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
ذَوَاتَآ أَفۡنَانٖ
48. Having (spreading) branches.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
49. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فِيهِمَا عَيۡنَانِ تَجۡرِيَانِ
50. In the two gardens there will be two flowing springs.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
51. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فِيهِمَا مِن كُلِّ فَٰكِهَةٖ زَوۡجَانِ
52. In both of these (gardens) there are pairs of every kind of fruit.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
53. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ فُرُشِۭ بَطَآئِنُهَا مِنۡ إِسۡتَبۡرَقٖۚ وَجَنَى ٱلۡجَنَّتَيۡنِ دَانٖ
54. Reclining on couches, the inner coverings of which are of silk brocade. The fruits of the two gardens shall be within reach.

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
55. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فِيهِنَّ قَٰصِرَٰتُ ٱلطَّرۡفِ لَمۡ يَطۡمِثۡهُنَّ إِنسٞ قَبۡلَهُمۡ وَلَا جَآنّٞ
56. In them shall be bashful maidens, restraining their glances; untouched before them by any man or jinn.

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
57. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
كَأَنَّهُنَّ ٱلۡيَاقُوتُ وَٱلۡمَرۡجَانُ
58. As if they are rubies and coral.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
59. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
هَلۡ جَزَآءُ ٱلۡإِحۡسَٰنِ إِلَّا ٱلۡإِحۡسَٰنُ
60. Is the reward of goodness anything except goodness?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
61. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
وَمِن دُونِهِمَا جَنَّتَانِ
62. Besides this, there will be two (other) gardens.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
63. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
مُدۡهَآمَّتَانِ
64. Dark green in color.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
65. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فِيهِمَا عَيۡنَانِ نَضَّاخَتَانِ
66. In both of them there will also be two springs gushing forth.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
67. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فِيهِمَا فَٰكِهَةٞ وَنَخۡلٞ وَرُمَّانٞ
68. In both gardens are fruits, palms, and pomegranates.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
69. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فِيهِنَّ خَيۡرَٰتٌ حِسَانٞ
70. In them are well-disciplined, beautiful maidens.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
71. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
حُورٞ مَّقۡصُورَٰتٞ فِي ٱلۡخِيَامِ
72. With beautiful eyes, reserved in pavilions.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
73. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
لَمۡ يَطۡمِثۡهُنَّ إِنسٞ قَبۡلَهُمۡ وَلَا جَآنّٞ
74. Untouched before them by man or jinn.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
75. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ رَفۡرَفٍ خُضۡرٖ وَعَبۡقَرِيٍّ حِسَانٖ
76. Reclining on green cushions and beautiful fine carpets.

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
77. Which then of the bounties of (Allah) your Lord will you deny?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
تَبَٰرَكَ ٱسۡمُ رَبِّكَ ذِي ٱلۡجَلَٰلِ وَٱلۡإِكۡرَامِ
78. Blessed is the Name of (Allah) your Lord, the Owner of (All) Majesty, Glory, and Grace.
