9
ٱنفِرُواْ خِفَافٗا وَثِقَالٗا وَجَٰهِدُواْ بِأَمۡوَٰلِكُمۡ وَأَنفُسِكُمۡ فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِۚ ذَٰلِكُمۡ خَيۡرٞ لَّكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ
41. Go forth (for war in the Cause of God) whether light or heavy [18], and strive hard in God's Way [19] with your wealth and your lives; this is better for you, if you only knew.
[18]. i.e., young or old, lightly or heavily armed, riding or walking, in ease or in hardship - in all circumstances and conditions.
[19]. The moral Way to Peace.

لَوۡ كَانَ عَرَضٗا قَرِيبٗا وَسَفَرٗا قَاصِدٗا لَّٱتَّبَعُوكَ وَلَٰكِنۢ بَعُدَتۡ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلشُّقَّةُۚ وَسَيَحۡلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ لَوِ ٱسۡتَطَعۡنَا لَخَرَجۡنَا مَعَكُمۡ يُهۡلِكُونَ أَنفُسَهُمۡ وَٱللَّهُ يَعۡلَمُ إِنَّهُمۡ لَكَٰذِبُونَ
42. Had it been immediate gain, and easy journey, they (the hypocrites) would have followed you, but the distance was too far for them. They will swear by Allāh: "If we had been able, we would certainly have gone forth with you." They cause their own selves to perish. And Allāh knows that they are liars.

9
عَفَا ٱللَّهُ عَنكَ لِمَ أَذِنتَ لَهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكَ ٱلَّذِينَ صَدَقُواْ وَتَعۡلَمَ ٱلۡكَٰذِبِينَ
43. (May) Allāh pardon you (Muhammad), why did you give them permission (to stay at home) until those who spoke the Truth had become manifest to you and you had known the liars?

9
لَا يَسۡتَـٔۡذِنُكَ ٱلَّذِينَ يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأٓخِرِ أَن يُجَٰهِدُواْ بِأَمۡوَٰلِهِمۡ وَأَنفُسِهِمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمُۢ بِٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ
44. They do not ask permission of you, those who believe in Allāh and the Last Day (to stay away) from fighting with their wealth and their lives. Allāh is All-Knowing of the righteous.

إِنَّمَا يَسۡتَـٔۡذِنُكَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأٓخِرِ وَٱرۡتَابَتۡ قُلُوبُهُمۡ فَهُمۡ فِي رَيۡبِهِمۡ يَتَرَدَّدُونَ
45. Only those who do not believe in Allāh and the Last Day ask you permission [20], and whose hearts are filled with doubt, so in their doubt do they waver.
[20]. To be exempted from fighting for the Cause of Allāh.

۞ وَلَوۡ أَرَادُواْ ٱلۡخُرُوجَ لَأَعَدُّواْ لَهُۥ عُدَّةٗ وَلَٰكِن كَرِهَ ٱللَّهُ ٱنۢبِعَاثَهُمۡ فَثَبَّطَهُمۡ وَقِيلَ ٱقۡعُدُواْ مَعَ ٱلۡقَٰعِدِينَ
46. If they had intended to go out (for war for God’s Cause), they would have prepared for it some preparation. But Allāh disliked their being sent forth into battle, so He let them lag behind, and it was said (to them): "Sit you among those who sit (at home)."

لَوۡ خَرَجُواْ فِيكُم مَّا زَادُوكُمۡ إِلَّا خَبَالٗا وَلَأَوۡضَعُواْ خِلَٰلَكُمۡ يَبۡغُونَكُمُ ٱلۡفِتۡنَةَ وَفِيكُمۡ سَمَّٰعُونَ لَهُمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمُۢ بِٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
47. Had they gone forth with you into battle, they would not have added to you anything but trouble, and they would have hurried about in your midst, seeking 'to sow' discord, and some of you are avid listeners to them. And Allāh is All-Knowing of the unjust.
