[23]. The verse refers to four pairs so far (sheep and goats; male and female of each). The pagans claimed certain animals were forbidden to eat depending on their sex or birth — such as saying: “Only males may eat this,”
or “This offspring is sacred for our idols.”
Allāh exposes the falsehood of these invented laws and demands proof.
[24]. i.e., clawed animals that have nails in their toes, e.g., camels, ostriches, duck, geese, etc.
