Al-Wāqi‘ah

ആയത്ത്: 1

إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلۡوَاقِعَةُ

1. When the inevitable Event1 occurs.

1. I.e., the Day of Resurrection.

ആയത്ത്: 2

لَيۡسَ لِوَقۡعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ

2. There can be no denial of its occurrence.

ആയത്ത്: 3

خَافِضَةٞ رَّافِعَةٌ

3. It will abase (some), and exalt (others).

ആയത്ത്: 4

إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ رَجّٗا

4. When the earth is shaken violently,

ആയത്ത്: 5

وَبُسَّتِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ بَسّٗا

5. And the mountains crumbled,

ആയത്ത്: 6

فَكَانَتۡ هَبَآءٗ مُّنۢبَثّٗا

6. And become as scattered dust.

ആയത്ത്: 7

وَكُنتُمۡ أَزۡوَٰجٗا ثَلَٰثَةٗ

7. (On that Day) you will be of three groups.

ആയത്ത്: 8

فَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ

8. The people of the right; how 'blessed' are they the people of right2?

2. Those whose books of records will be given in their right hands and are destined for Paradise.

ആയത്ത്: 9

وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ

9. The people of the left; how 'miserable' are they the people of the left3?

3. Those whose books of records will be given in their left hands and are destined for Hell.

ആയത്ത്: 10

وَٱلسَّٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّٰبِقُونَ

10. The foremost (in faith and virtue) will be the foremost (in entering Paradise),

ആയത്ത്: 11

أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبُونَ

11. These are the nearest ones 'to Allāh',

ആയത്ത്: 12

فِي جَنَّٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ

12. In Gardens of Bliss,

ആയത്ത്: 13

ثُلَّةٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ

13. A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the early generations,

ആയത്ത്: 14

وَقَلِيلٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ

14. And a few of the later generations,

ആയത്ത്: 15

عَلَىٰ سُرُرٖ مَّوۡضُونَةٖ

15. On jeweled couches,

ആയത്ത്: 16

مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيۡهَا مُتَقَٰبِلِينَ

16. Reclining on them, facing one another,

ആയത്ത്: 17

يَطُوفُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وِلۡدَٰنٞ مُّخَلَّدُونَ

17. They will be served by immortal youths,

ആയത്ത്: 18

بِأَكۡوَابٖ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأۡسٖ مِّن مَّعِينٖ

18. With cups, jugs and a glass (of pure wine) from a flowing spring,

ആയത്ത്: 19

لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنۡهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ

19. Which will not cause them any illness, nor will they be intoxicated,

ആയത്ത്: 20

وَفَٰكِهَةٖ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ

20. And they will be served fruits such as they choose,

ആയത്ത്: 21

وَلَحۡمِ طَيۡرٖ مِّمَّا يَشۡتَهُونَ

21. And the flesh of birds such as they desire,

ആയത്ത്: 22

وَحُورٌ عِينٞ

22. And noble maidens, with large, 'beautiful' eyes,

ആയത്ത്: 23

كَأَمۡثَٰلِ ٱللُّؤۡلُوِٕ ٱلۡمَكۡنُونِ

23. Like pearls preserved (in their shells).

ആയത്ത്: 24

جَزَآءَۢ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ

24. As reward for what they used to do (of good deeds).

ആയത്ത്: 25

لَا يَسۡمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغۡوٗا وَلَا تَأۡثِيمًا

25. They will not hear therein vain or sinful talk,

ആയത്ത്: 26

إِلَّا قِيلٗا سَلَٰمٗا سَلَٰمٗا

26. Except the greeting: 'Peace, peace.'

ആയത്ത്: 27

وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡيَمِينِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡيَمِينِ

27. As for the people of the right. How 'blessed' are they the people of the right?.

ആയത്ത്: 28

فِي سِدۡرٖ مَّخۡضُودٖ

28. (They will be) amid thornless lote-trees,

ആയത്ത്: 29

وَطَلۡحٖ مَّنضُودٖ

29. And banana-trees with fruits piled up one on the other,

ആയത്ത്: 30

وَظِلّٖ مَّمۡدُودٖ

30. And extended shade,

ആയത്ത്: 31

وَمَآءٖ مَّسۡكُوبٖ

31. And water flowing constantly,

ആയത്ത്: 32

وَفَٰكِهَةٖ كَثِيرَةٖ

32. And abundant fruit,

ആയത്ത്: 33

لَّا مَقۡطُوعَةٖ وَلَا مَمۡنُوعَةٖ

33. Neither intercepted nor forbidden,

ആയത്ത്: 34

وَفُرُشٖ مَّرۡفُوعَةٍ

34. And noble maidens on beds raised high.

ആയത്ത്: 35

إِنَّآ أَنشَأۡنَٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءٗ

35. We have created them (those maidens) of special creation,

ആയത്ത്: 36

فَجَعَلۡنَٰهُنَّ أَبۡكَارًا

36. Then made them virgins,

ആയത്ത്: 37

عُرُبًا أَتۡرَابٗا

37. Loving - equal in age,

ആയത്ത്: 38

لِّأَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ

38. For the people of the right.

ആയത്ത്: 39

ثُلَّةٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ

39. A multitude of the earlier generations,

ആയത്ത്: 40

وَثُلَّةٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ

40. And a multitude of the later generations.

ആയത്ത്: 41

وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ

41. As for the people on the left⁴, how 'miserable' are they?

4. Whose records are given from their left side - the people of Hell.

ആയത്ത്: 42

فِي سَمُومٖ وَحَمِيمٖ

42. (They will be) in scorching wind and scalding water,

ആയത്ത്: 43

وَظِلّٖ مِّن يَحۡمُومٖ

43. And under a shadow of black smoke,

ആയത്ത്: 44

لَّا بَارِدٖ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ

44. Neither cool nor honorable.

ആയത്ത്: 45

إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ قَبۡلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتۡرَفِينَ

45. They used to live in luxury before this,

ആയത്ത്: 46

وَكَانُواْ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلۡحِنثِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ

46. And persisted in the gravest sin5.

5. Of associating partners with Allāh in worship.

ആയത്ത്: 47

وَكَانُواْ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابٗا وَعِظَٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبۡعُوثُونَ

47. They used to say: "When we die and have become dust and bones, shall we really be raised up (from the dead)?"

ആയത്ത്: 48

أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ

48. And also our forefathers?

ആയത്ത്: 49

قُلۡ إِنَّ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ

49. Say (Muhammad): "Yes, those of old, and those of later times,

ആയത്ത്: 50

لَمَجۡمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَٰتِ يَوۡمٖ مَّعۡلُومٖ

50. Will be gathered together for the appointed meeting of a known Day.

ആയത്ത്: 51

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمۡ أَيُّهَا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبُونَ

51. Then you, O those astray (who are) deniers (of Resurrection)!

ആയത്ത്: 52

لَأٓكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٖ مِّن زَقُّومٖ

52. Will eat of a tree of Zaqqum,

ആയത്ത്: 53

فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنۡهَا ٱلۡبُطُونَ

53. Filling (your) bellies with it -

ആയത്ത്: 54

فَشَٰرِبُونَ عَلَيۡهِ مِنَ ٱلۡحَمِيمِ

54. Then drink on top of it boiling water;

ആയത്ത്: 55

فَشَٰرِبُونَ شُرۡبَ ٱلۡهِيمِ

55. As the drinking of thirsty camels."

ആയത്ത്: 56

هَٰذَا نُزُلُهُمۡ يَوۡمَ ٱلدِّينِ

56. This is their welcome on the Day of Recompense.

ആയത്ത്: 57

نَحۡنُ خَلَقۡنَٰكُمۡ فَلَوۡلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ

57. It is We (Allāh) who have created you, why do you not then believe?

ആയത്ത്: 58

أَفَرَءَيۡتُم مَّا تُمۡنُونَ

58. Have you considered the (human semen) that you emit?

ആയത്ത്: 59

ءَأَنتُمۡ تَخۡلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡخَٰلِقُونَ

59. Is it you that create it or are We 'Allāh' the Creators?

ആയത്ത്: 60

نَحۡنُ قَدَّرۡنَا بَيۡنَكُمُ ٱلۡمَوۡتَ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَسۡبُوقِينَ

60. We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome,

ആയത്ത്: 61

عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمۡثَٰلَكُمۡ وَنُنشِئَكُمۡ فِي مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ

61. In order that We may change your forms and create you (again) in (forms) that you know not.

ആയത്ത്: 62

وَلَقَدۡ عَلِمۡتُمُ ٱلنَّشۡأَةَ ٱلۡأُولَىٰ فَلَوۡلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ

62. You certainly knew about the first form of creation; why do you then not take heed?

ആയത്ത്: 63

أَفَرَءَيۡتُم مَّا تَحۡرُثُونَ

63. Have you considered what you sow?

ആയത്ത്: 64

ءَأَنتُمۡ تَزۡرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلزَّٰرِعُونَ

64. Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We 'Allāh' the Causers of growth6?

6. Neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only Allāh, who makes things grow.

ആയത്ത്: 65

لَوۡ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلۡنَٰهُ حُطَٰمٗا فَظَلۡتُمۡ تَفَكَّهُونَ

65. If We willed, We certainly could make it dried grass scattered into pieces; then you would be left in wonderment.

ആയത്ത്: 66

إِنَّا لَمُغۡرَمُونَ

66. (Saying): "We are indeed punished7.  

7. And are at gross loss by the departing of our wealth.

ആയത്ത്: 67

بَلۡ نَحۡنُ مَحۡرُومُونَ

67. Rather, we are deprived "altogether"

ആയത്ത്: 68

أَفَرَءَيۡتُمُ ٱلۡمَآءَ ٱلَّذِي تَشۡرَبُونَ

68. Have you considered the water which you drink?

ആയത്ത്: 69

ءَأَنتُمۡ أَنزَلۡتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُزۡنِ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُنزِلُونَ

69. Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We 'Allāh' the Senders?

ആയത്ത്: 70

لَوۡ نَشَآءُ جَعَلۡنَٰهُ أُجَاجٗا فَلَوۡلَا تَشۡكُرُونَ

70. If We willed, We could make it salty; why do you not then give thanks?

ആയത്ത്: 71

أَفَرَءَيۡتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِي تُورُونَ

71. Have you considered the fire which you kindle?

ആയത്ത്: 72

ءَأَنتُمۡ أَنشَأۡتُمۡ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُنشِـُٔونَ

72. Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We 'Allāh' the producers?

ആയത്ത്: 73

نَحۡنُ جَعَلۡنَٰهَا تَذۡكِرَةٗ وَمَتَٰعٗا لِّلۡمُقۡوِينَ

73. We have made it a reminder and a benefit for the travelers (and for all of mankind).

ആയത്ത്: 74

فَسَبِّحۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ

74. So glorify the Name of 'Allāh' your Lord, the Most Great.

ആയത്ത്: 75

۞ فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ

75. I 'God' swear by the setting of the stars;

ആയത്ത്: 76

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٞ لَّوۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ

76. And it is a great oath, if you only knew;

ആയത്ത്: 77

إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرۡءَانٞ كَرِيمٞ

77. (That) it is certainly a Noble Qur’an,

ആയത്ത്: 78

فِي كِتَٰبٖ مَّكۡنُونٖ

78. In a well-Preserved Book (the Preserved Tablet),

ആയത്ത്: 79

لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلۡمُطَهَّرُونَ

79. None will touch it except the purified ones (the angels).

ആയത്ത്: 80

تَنزِيلٞ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ

80. (It is) a revelation from 'Allāh' Lord of all beings.

ആയത്ത്: 81

أَفَبِهَٰذَا ٱلۡحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدۡهِنُونَ

81. Do you hold this (Divine) Statement in light esteem?

ആയത്ത്: 82

وَتَجۡعَلُونَ رِزۡقَكُمۡ أَنَّكُمۡ تُكَذِّبُونَ

82. And make (the thanks for) your provision that you deny (the Provider)?

ആയത്ത്: 83

فَلَوۡلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلۡحُلۡقُومَ

83. Why is it not then that when it (the soul) reaches the throat?

ആയത്ത്: 84

وَأَنتُمۡ حِينَئِذٖ تَنظُرُونَ

84. And you at that time look on,

ആയത്ത്: 85

وَنَحۡنُ أَقۡرَبُ إِلَيۡهِ مِنكُمۡ وَلَٰكِن لَّا تُبۡصِرُونَ

85. And We are closer8 to him than you, but you cannot see.

8. We are closer to him in terms of Knowledge and Power; Our angels are closer in person.

ആയത്ത്: 86

فَلَوۡلَآ إِن كُنتُمۡ غَيۡرَ مَدِينِينَ

86. Why do you not then - if you are exempt from the Reckoning -

ആയത്ത്: 87

تَرۡجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَٰدِقِينَ

87. Bring it (the soul) back (to life), if you are truthful?

ആയത്ത്: 88

فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبِينَ

88. If he9 is one of those brought near10,

9. The dead person.
10. Who used to race for 'the good deeds.'

ആയത്ത്: 89

فَرَوۡحٞ وَرَيۡحَانٞ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٖ

89. Then (for him is) rest, bounty and a Garden of Bliss.

ആയത്ത്: 90

وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنۡ أَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ

90. If he is one of the people of the right,

ആയത്ത്: 91

فَسَلَٰمٞ لَّكَ مِنۡ أَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ

91. Then (the angels will say): "Peace be upon you, for (you are) from the people of the right."

ആയത്ത്: 92

وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ

92. But if he was of the deniers, the astray,

ആയത്ത്: 93

فَنُزُلٞ مِّنۡ حَمِيمٖ

93. He will be welcomed with scalding water,

ആയത്ത്: 94

وَتَصۡلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ

94. And burning in Hellfire.

ആയത്ത്: 95

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلۡيَقِينِ

95. This is certainly the absolute Truth.

ആയത്ത്: 96

فَسَبِّحۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ

96. So glorify the Name of 'Allāh' your Lord, the Most Great.
