Al-‘Alaq

آیت: 1

ٱقۡرَأۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ

1. Recite in the Name of your Lord (Allāh), Who created,

آیت: 2

خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِنۡ عَلَقٍ

2. Created man from a clot.

آیت: 3

ٱقۡرَأۡ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلۡأَكۡرَمُ

3. Recite, and your Lord (Allāh) is the Most Honorable,

آیت: 4

ٱلَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِٱلۡقَلَمِ

4. Who taught (people to write) by the pen,

آیت: 5

عَلَّمَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمۡ يَعۡلَمۡ

5. Taught man what he knew not.

آیت: 6

كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطۡغَىٰٓ

6. Nay! Indeed, man (the denier) transgresses (in denial and sins),

آیت: 7

أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰٓ

7. When he sees himself self-sufficient (in terms of wealth, honor, and rank).

آیت: 8

إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجۡعَىٰٓ

8. Indeed, to your Lord (Allāh) is the Return.

آیت: 9

أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يَنۡهَىٰ

9. Have you seen him (the unbeliever) who forbids,

آیت: 10

عَبۡدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ

10. A servant (of God) when he prays?

آیت: 11

أَرَءَيۡتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰٓ

11. Have you seen if he is on right guidance (from God)?

آیت: 12

أَوۡ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقۡوَىٰٓ

12.Or he enjoined (people) piety?

آیت: 13

أَرَءَيۡتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ

13. Have you seen if he (the unbeliever) rejects (the Truth) and turns away (from it)?

آیت: 14

أَلَمۡ يَعۡلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ

14. Doesn’t he know that Allāh sees (what he does)?

آیت: 15

كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمۡ يَنتَهِ لَنَسۡفَعَۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ

15. Nay! indeed, if he does not desist, We will ndeed hold of him by the forelock,

آیت: 16

نَاصِيَةٖ كَٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٖ

16. A lying, sinful forehead.

آیت: 17

فَلۡيَدۡعُ نَادِيَهُۥ

17. So let him summon his council,

آیت: 18

سَنَدۡعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ

18. We too would summon the guards of Hell¹.

1. I.e., the grim stern angels of Hell to destroy him.

آیت: 19

كَلَّا لَا تُطِعۡهُ وَٱسۡجُدۡۤ وَٱقۡتَرِب۩

19. No, do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near (to Allāh).
