183. O believers, fasting is ordained for you59, as it was ordained for those before you, so that you may fear Allāh and (shun evil)60.

60. Prophet Muhammad fasted for twenty nine or thirty days of the lunar month of Ramadan every year. He used to commune with Allāh in night prayers. Likewise, if you pray and fast, you can feel closer to Allāh and better understand the things He wants you to do.
184. A certain number of days. Whoever among you is sick or on a journey, then (he shall fast) a (like) number of other days. Those who are not able to fast may effect a redemption by feeding a poor person (for each day). 61. The provision of this verse has been abrogated by the next Verse 185, with a few exceptions, i.e., the very old or pregnant woman, etc.
185. The month of Ramadan is that in which the Qur’an was revealed; a guide to the people, with clear proofs of guidance and the standard 'to distinguish between right and wrong'. So whoever of you witnesses this month, should fast. He who is sick or upon a journey, has to fast a (like) number of other days. Allāh wants ease for you, and He does not want for you hardship, (He desires) that you complete the prescribed period an and to glorify Allāh for what He has guided you, and that you may give (Him) thanks.
186. When My servants ask you (O Muhammad) about Me62, then I am near. I answer the prayer of the suppliant when he calls on Me, so let them answer My call and believe in Me that they may be rightly guided63.
62. A group of followers of the Prophet asked him, ‘Is 'Allāh our Lord nearby so that we should talk to Him secretly, or is He far away, so that we should call out to him?’ Then this Verse was revealed. God’s nearness means that one need not raise one’s voice or ask for intercession for God to hear one’s Prayers and answer them. God takes on the answer directly to His servants without the need for intercession.
63. Muhammad, God's Messenger said, "God said, ‘I will declare war against him who shows hostility to a pious worshipper of Mine. And the most beloved things with which My servant comes nearer to Me, is what I have enjoined upon him; and My servant keeps on coming closer to Me through performing extra good deeds besides what is obligatory till I love him. Then I become his sense of hearing with which he hears, and his sense of sight with which he sees, and his hand with which he grips, and his leg with which he walks; and if he asks Me, I will give him, and if he asks My protection (Refuge), I will protect him; (i.e. give him My Refuge), and I do not hesitate to do anything as I hesitate to take the soul of the believer, for he hates death, and I hate to disappoint him."
