1. The Qur’an is made up of such letters from the Arabic alphabet. The Arabs at the time of revelation were the unmatched masters of the Arabic language and yet when challenged were totally unable to bring anything like the Qur’an. Although these disjointed Arabic letters are referring to the inimitable nature of the Qur’an and its divine source, God knows best its meaning.
5. The heavens above them almost tear apart². The angels also glorify their Lord 'Allāh' with praise and they ask forgiveness for those on earth. Know, Allāh alone is certainly the All-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.
2. I.e., from the Majesty and Grandeur of Allāh and in Awe and Reverence of Him.
7. Thus have We revealed to you a perfect Qur’an in Arabic, that you 'Muhammad' may warn the mother of villages (Makkah) and (all) those around it (all of mankind), and that you may give warning of the Day of Gathering wherein there is no doubt. A party will be in Paradise, and a party in the burning Fire.
8. Had Allāh willed, He could have made them a single community (of believers), but He admits whom He wills into His Mercy. The unjust⁵ will have neither a protector nor a helper.
5. Those who practice idolatry, associate others with Allāh in worship, or commit other major sins such as murder, adultery, theft, restoring to deception and falsehood and die as such.
9. Or have they taken guardians besides Him? But Allāh is the real Guardian (Lord, Savior), and He gives life to the dead, and He is Able to do all things.
10. Whatever thing you disagree, the judgment thereof is with Allāh. Such is Allāh, my Lord, on Him (alone) do I rely and to Him (alone) do I turn (in repentance).
11. Originator of the heavens and the earth; He made pairs for you from among yourselves, and pairs of the cattle too, multiplying you thereby. There is none like Him (nor is there any God besides Him), and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.
12. To Him belongs the treasures of the heavens and the earth. He extends the provision for whom He wills, and straitens (it for whom He wills). He is the All-Knowing of all things.
13. He has plainly clarified the religion (of Islam) which He commanded Noah, and that revealed to you 'Muhammad', and that which We commanded Abraham, Moses and Jesus⁶, saying: "Uphold the Islamic Monotheism, and be not divided therein. Hard for the pagans is that which you call them to. Allāh chooses for Himself whom He wills, and guides to Himself who turns to Him (in repentance).
6. This Verse is naming the five greatest prophets of God, the prophets of the firm resolve: Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon them all.
14. They (the early Jews and Nazarenes) did not become divided (into many sects) until after knowledge had come to them out of envy among themselves. Had not a Word gone forth from 'Allāh' your Lord till an appointed term, the matter would certainly have been settled between them. Those (later generations of them) who were made to inherit the Scripture⁷after them are in disquieting doubt about it (the Qur'an).
15. So call people (to the true religion of God, Islam) and pursue the right course as you are commanded. Do not follow their low desires, and say: "I believe in whatever Allāh has sent down of Scripture, and I am commanded to do justice between you: Allāh is our Lord and your Lord. For us are our deeds, and for you your deeds. There is (no need for) dispute between us and you. Allāh will gather us together, and to Him is the (final) return."
16. As for those who dispute about (Islam, the true religion of) Allāh after it has been accepted (by many people) - their dispute is invalid with their Lord 'Allāh', and upon them is (His) anger, and for them is a severe torment.
17. It is Allāh Who sent down the Book (Qur’an) in truth, and the Balance (to act justly). What can make you know that perhaps the Hour (of the Doom) is near?
18. Those who do not believe in it seek to hasten it, but those who believe are in fear from it, and they know that it is the Truth. Those who dispute about the Hour (of Doom) are certainly in extreme error.
20. Whoever desires the harvest of the Hereafter, We give him increase in its harvest. But whoever desires the harvest of the world, We give him of it, and in the Hereafter he has no share (of good).
21. Do they have partners (other gods) who have ordained for them a religion without the permission of Allāh? Had it not been for a decisive Word (gone forth already), the matter would have certainly been judged between them. The workers of iniquity will have a painful torment.
22. You will see the workers of iniquity fearing because of what they have done (of sins), and it must befall them. Those who believe and do righteous deeds will be in the meadows of the Gardens, they will have what they desire from their Lord 'Allāh' - that is the Great Bounty.
23. That (Reward) is the good news which Allāh gives to His servants, who believe and do righteous deeds. Say 'Muhammad': "I do not ask of you any reward for it (this Message) except to show love⁹ and kindness to me for my kinship with you. Whoever earns a good deed, We shall give him an increase of good therein. Allāh is certainly All-Forgiving, Most Grateful.
9. Let love and faithfulness never leave you. Be devoted to one another in love and mercy. Be kind. Honor one another above yourselves. Then you will win favor and a good name in the Sight of Allāh.
24. Or do they say: "He has invented a lie against Allāh?" But if Allāh willed, He could have sealed your heart; and Allāh will wipe out the falsehood and establish the Truth by His words. He is All-Knowing of what is in the chests (of mankind and jinn).
26. He answers (the invocation of) those who believe and do righteous deeds¹⁰, and gives them more out of His bounty. (But as for) the deniers, they will have a severe torment.
10. Allāh is listening for our requests. The Eyes of Allāh our Lord are on the righteous, and His Hearing is attentive to their prayer.
27. If Allāh were to enlarge the provision for His slaves they would certainly rebel in the earth; but He sends it down according to a measure as He wills. He is All-Aware, Ever-Seeing of His slaves (of mankind).
29. Among (Allah’s) signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and what He has spread forth in both of them of living beings. When He wills He is All-Capable to gather them together.
33. If He 'Allāh' wills, He causes the wind to become stil so that they lie motionless on its surface. There are certainly signs in this for every patient, grateful one.
36. Whatever thing you are given, that is only a provision of this worldly life, and what is with Allāh is better and more lasting for those who believe (in His Oneness) and rely on their Lord 'Allāh'.
37. Those who avoid major sins and indecencies, and whenever they are angry they (restrain themselves and) forgive¹¹.
11. He did not say that they take revenge, oppress, or kill. Make it a rule in your dealings with people and be tolerant. Be good listener, slow to speak and slow to become angry. As believers in Allāh and His last and final messenger, the Prophet Muhammad, we are to be following more like our compassionate and gracious God, Allāh, Who is slow to be angered, abounding in love and faithfulness.
38. Those who answer the call¹² of their Lord 'Allāh' and keep up the prayer, and who (conduct) their affairs by mutual consultation, and spend (in charity) out of what We have given them.
12. I.e. to believe that He is the only One True God and to worship none but Him.
40. The recompense of an injury is punishment like it, but whoever pardons and makes reconciliation, they will have their reward from Allāh. He certainly does not like the unjust.
42. The way (of blame) is only against those who oppress men and rebel in the earth without right; for such (wrongdoers) there will be a suppressing torment.
44. Whoever Allāh leaves astray, for him there is no protector after Him. You will see the workers of iniquity when they see the torment, saying: "Is there any way to return?"¹⁴
45. You will see them brought forward to it (Hell), made humble by (their) disgrace, (and) looking with a faint glance. Those who believe will say: "The losers are the ones who will lose themselves and their families on the Day of Resurrection. The workers of iniquity will remain in a lasting torment."
47. Answer the Call of 'Allāh' your Lord¹⁵ before a Day comes from Allāh which cannot be averted. You will have no refuge on that Day, nor will it be yours to make any denial (of your sins).
48. If they turn away (from you), We have not sent you 'Muhammad' as a watcher over them. Upon you is only to convey (the Message clearly)¹⁶. When We make man taste Mercy from Us, he rejoices from it. If an evil afflicts them because of what their hands have put forth (of sins), then man is ever ungrateful.
16. Prophet Muhammad’s message is complete and clear. His main thrust of preaching centered around the Oneness of God, His Prophethood, preaching mercy, love, acceptance, and forgiveness among people. The Prophet Muhammad emphasized the importance of loving Allāh and loving one's brother, neighbor as oneself. He taught that Allah's kingdom is accessible to all, regardless of social status or religious background, as long as they obey Allāh and His messenger. The Prophet Muhammad’s message resonated with people from all walks of life. He offered hope to the marginalized, healed the sick (by Allah's Command), and embraced those deemed unworthy by society. His message of inclusivity and compassion drew large crowds and transformed the lives of many, and many turn away from the Truth.
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “The parable of myself and all of you is that of a man who kindled a fire and tried to stop insects and moths from falling into it. I keep holding you back from the fire, yet you slip from my hand.”
49. To Allāh belongs the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He creates what He wills. He grants to whom He wills daughters, and grants to whom He wills sons.
51. It is not for any human being that Allāh should speak to him except by Revelation or from behind a veil, or by sending (angelic) messenger to reveal by His Permission what He wills. He is Most High, All-Wise.
52. Thus We have revealed to you 'Muhammad' an Inspiration of Our Command. You did not know what was the Book, nor what was Faith, but We have made it (the Qur’an) a Light, whereby We guide whom We will of Our slaves (of mankind and jinn). You certainly guide (the people) to a right Path;
53. The Path of Allāh, to whom belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. To Allāh certainly do all matters return (for decision).
