1. The Qur’an is made up of such letters from the Arabic alphabet. The Arabs at the time of revelation were the unmatched masters of the Arabic language and yet when challenged were totally unable to bring anything like the Qur’an. Although these disjointed Arabic letters are referring to the inimitable nature of the Qur’an and its divine source, God knows best its meaning.
5. The heavens above them almost tear apart². The angels also glorify their Lord 'Allāh' with praise and they ask forgiveness for those on earth. Know, Allāh alone is certainly the All-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.
2. I.e., from the Majesty and Grandeur of Allāh and in Awe and Reverence of Him.
7. Thus have We revealed to you a perfect Qur’an in Arabic, that you 'Muhammad' may warn the mother of villages 'Makkah' and 'all' those around it 'all of mankind', and that you may give warning of the Day of Gathering wherein there is no doubt. A party will be in Paradise, and a party in the burning Fire.
8. Had Allāh willed, He could have made them a single community 'of believers', but He admits whom He wills into His Mercy. The unjust⁵ will have neither a protector nor a helper.
5. Those who practice idolatry, associate others with Allāh in worship, or commit other major sins such as murder, adultery, theft, restoring to deception and falsehood and die as such.
9. Or have they taken guardians besides Him? But Allāh is the real Guardian 'Lord, Savior', and He gives life to the dead, and He is Able to do all things.
10. Whatever thing you disagree, the judgment thereof is with Allāh. Such is Allāh, my Lord, on Him 'alone' do I rely and to Him 'alone' do I turn 'in repentance'.
