1. Ta Seen Meem¹.
1. The Qur’an is made up of such letters from the Arabic alphabet. The Arabs at the time of revelation were the unrivalled masters of the Arabic language and yet when challenged were totally unable to bring anything like the Qur’an. Despite this fact, the inimitable nature of the Qur’an and its divine source, God knows best the meaning of these disjointed Arabic letters.
2. These are Verses of the clear Book².

4. Pharaoh dominated the land and made its people into parties, weakening one party from among them  (i.e., the children of Israel); slaughtering their sons and keeping their women alive (for servitude). He was corrupt (and an oppressing tyrant).
5. But We wanted to bestow favor upon those who were oppressed in the land, and make them rulers and inheritors (of Pharaoh’s kingdom);

6. Give them power in the land³, and to show Pharaoh and Haman and their soldiers, from their victims, what they were taking precautions against⁴.
3. The land of Egypt and Palestine.
4. That his kingdom would come to an end at the hands of a newborn from the Children of Israel.

7. We inspired to the mother of Moses, saying: "Suckle him (for a time), but when you fear for him, cast him into the river and do not fear nor grieve. We shall certainly bring him back to you, and make him one of the messengers (of Allah)."

10. The heart of the mother of Moses became empty (of all else). She would have almost disclosed it (that the child is her son) had We not strengthened her heart that she would be of the believers.

13. Thus We did return Moses to his mother that she might be comforted and delight her eyes, and relieve her sorrows, and let her know that the Promise of Allah is true, but most of them do not know.
14. When (Moses) reached his (age of) full strength and maturity (of mind), We granted him sound judgment and knowledge. Thus do We reward the doers of good.
15. He entered the city at a time when (most of) its people were unaware of what was going on (in the streets)⁷; so he encountered therein two men fighting. One was his follower, and the other his enemy. His follower asked him for help against him who was of his enemy. So Moses struck him with his fist to death. (Moses) said: "This is of the Satan’s work; he is an enemy, openly leading astray."
7. resting in their houses

18. He remained in the city, fearing, vigilant. When suddenly he who had asked his help the day before was calling out to him for help again. Moses said to him: "You are clearly a troublemaker."
19. So when he wanted to strike the one who was an enemy to them, he said: " Moses, do you want to kill me⁸ as you killed a person yesterday? You only want to be a tyrant in the land, and you do not want to be a reformer."
8. I.e., the Israelite or the Coptic thought that Moses wanted to strike him.

21. So he went forth therefrom, fearing, vigilant, saying: "Lord, deliver me from the unjust people."

22. When he (Moses) directed himself towards Midian, he said: "Maybe (Allah) my Lord will guide me to the right way."
23. When he (Moses) arrived at the water of Midian, he found on it a group of men watering, and he found aside from them two women⁹ keeping away (their flocks from others). 9. Zipporah and her younger sister
24. So he (Moses) watered (their flocks) for them, then went back to the shade and said: "(O Allah my) Lord, I am desperately in need of whatever good You may send down to me10."
10. Do not wait for praise for every good thing you do, and do not look for applause for every heroic act. Live with a devout heart. Help those who need help, and console those who need consolation,
support the weak and help the stumbling to stand upright. Make doing good as a habit in you, like breathing. If you give charity, then turn away quickly averting your gaze, so that you do not see the brokenness of the poor before your eyes. How noble was Moses, peace be upon him, when he give the help, he turned away, and Allah rewarded him with something more beautiful than a word of thanks. Always remember that you are dealing with Allah - Generous God.
25. Then one of the two women11 came to him walking shyly12. She said: "My father invites you that he may give you the reward of your having watered (our flocks) for us. So when (Moses) came to him (Jethro) and told him the (whole) story, he said: "Fear not, you are secure from the unjust people."
11. I.e., Zipporah.
12. To attain shyness, be humble, don't put yourself forward, don't seek position, fame or notoriety - dress and behave modestly (males and females), don't look down on others, help the weak, aid the oppressed, don't show off, avoid the desire to be the centre of conversations and attention - don't put out images of yourself for the people to see - don't seek to embarrass and shame others, and specially the believers, rather learn to love them and aide them - and if you are unknown, praise Allah and thank Him. Muhammad, God's messenger said: "There is not a person who humbles himself for Allah except that Allah raises him."
26. One of the women said: "Father, Hire him, for the best of those that you may hire is the strong, the trustworthy."
27. (After sometime the father) said: "I want to give one of my daughters to you in marriage, on condition that you should serve me for eight years; but if you complete ten, it will be of your own free will, and I do not want to be hard on you; if Allah wills, you will find me a righteous person13."
13. Muhammed, God's messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: “Righteousness is good character and manners, and sin is what disturbs your heart and you hate for people to find out about it.”
Striving for righteousness means having a relationship with Allah defined by obedience to His will and being shaped to have good character, taking as a model and good example the messenger of God, the Prophet Muhammad, for Allah has not called us to impurity, but to righteousness. Being righteous makes the believer set themselves apart from the evils of the world.
28. (Moses) said: "This will be (an agreement) between me and you. Whichever of the two terms I fulfill, there will be no further obligation on me. Allah is a Witness to what we say."
29. When Moses had fulfilled the (longest) term, and he was traveling with his family (to Egypt), he glimpsed a fire in the direction of mount (Sinai). He said to his family: "Stay here, I have glimpsed a fire, maybe I shall bring to you from it some information14 — or a brand of fire so that you may warm yourselves."
14. about the route to Egypt.

32. Enter your hand into the opening of your garment, it will come forth white (with radiance) without (leprosy or any other) disease. Draw your hand to yourself to ward off fear. These are two Proofs from (Allah) your Lord to Pharaoh and his council. They are a rebellious people (against God)."

34. And my brother, Aaron, he is more fluent than I am. Send him with me to assist me and confirm my truthfulness. I am afraid that they will reject me."

45. But We raised many generations (after Moses), and long was their span of life. You were not dwelling among the people of Midian, reciting to them Our verses, but it is We (Allah) Who kept sending (messengers)16.
16. Allah wants the best for all people - He wants His salvation to reach the world. And that is why He has sent the prophet Muhammad, as His last and final messenger to all the nations.
46. You were not at the side of the mount (Sinai) when We called out (to Moses). But (you were sent) as a Mercy from (Allah) your Lord to warn a people to whom no warner came before you, so that they may take heed17.
17. The Prophet Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) was asked: "Was there ever a day that was worse for you than the day of Uhud?" He said: “I suffered a great deal at the hands of the pagans, and the worst that I suffered from them was the day of al-‘Aqabah, when I presented myself to their chief, and he did not respond to what I wanted. So I left, so distressed that I did not know in which direction I was heading, and I did not realise where I was until I was in Qarn al-Tha‘aalib, where I lifted my head and saw that a cloud was shading me. I looked and saw therein Gabriel, who called me and said: "Allaah has heard what your people said to you, and how they have responded to you. He has sent to you the angel of the mountains, so that you can tell him to do whatever you want to them." Then the angel of the mountains called out to me and greeted me, then he said: "Muhammad, Allaah has heard what your people have said to you, and I am the angel of the mountains. Your Lord has sent me to you so that you can tell me what to do with them. If you wish I will bring together the two mountains of Makkah to crush them. The Messenger of God, blessings and peace of Allah be upon him, said to him: “Rather I hope that Allaah will bring forth from their loins people who will worship Allaah alone, not associating anything with Him.”
47. (We have sent you as a messenger to them) lest a disaster should seize them for what their hands sent forth (of sins) then they would say: "Our Lord (Allah), why did You not send to us a Messenger so that we should follow Your verses, and be of the believers?
48. But (now) when the Truth has come to them from Allah, they say: "Why is he not given the like of what was given to Moses? Did they not disbelieve in what Moses was given before? They said: "Two works of magic (the Torah and the Qur’an) backing up each other; and, in both, we are deniers."
49. Say: "Then bring a Scripture from Allah which is a better guide than both of them, (that) I may follow it - if you are truthful."
50. But if they do not answer you, then know that they only follow their low desires. Who is more astray than he who follows his lowly desires without any guidance from Allah? For Allah does not guide the unjust people.
51. We have certainly conveyed now the Word (the Qur’an) to them, so that they may take heed.
52. Those (who are firm in knowledge) whom We gave the Scripture before this (Qur’an), they believe in it.
53. When (this Qur’an) is recited to them, they say, "We believe in it, it is the Truth from (Allah) our Lord; even before it we were Muslims (submitters to the Will of God)".
54. These will receive double reward for their patience, repelling evil with good and spending (in charity) out of what We have given them (for the Cause of God).
55. When they hear vain talk they turn away from it, and say: "We shall have our deeds and you shall have your deeds; peace be with you, we do not seek (the way of) the ignorants."
56. You (Muhammad) cannot guide whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills, and He knows best those who are the guided.
57. They (the pagans) say: "If we follow the guidance with you, we shall be snatched away (by other tribes) from our land (for abandoning our religion). Yet is it not We (Allah) alone who have settled them in a safe, sacred territory (Makkah)18, to which fruits of every kind are brought? A sustenance from (Allah) - but most of them do not know.
18. Muhammad, God's Messenger, said: "Allâh has made this town, Makkah, a sanctuary. Its thorny bushes should not be cut, its game should not be chased, and its fallen things should not be picked up except by one who would announce them publicly."
58. How many a (sinful) town We have destroyed, which exulted in its (manner of) living, so these are their homes, they have not been dwelt in after them except a little, and We (Allah) were the Inheritors,
59. Your Lord (Allah) never destroy the towns until He sends to their metropolis a messenger, reciting to them Our verses. We never destroy the towns except when their people are unjust.
60. Whatever things you have been given are only a provision of this worldly life and its adornment. Whatever is with Allah is better and more lasting - do you not then understand?
61. Is he to whom We (Allah) have promised a goodly Promise (of Paradise) which he will meet with, like him whom We have provided with the passing enjoyment of this worldly life - then on the Day of Resurrection he will be of those who are brought up (for the Torment of Hell)?
62. (Warn) of the Day when Allah will call them and say: "Where are those whom you deemed to be My associates in worship?"
63. Those upon whom the Word (Decree) must pass will say: "Our Lord, these are the ones whom we led astray; we led them astray, as we were ourselves astray. We declare our disassociation (from them) to You. It was not us that they worshiped.
64. Then it will be said: "Call your associate-gods." So they will call upon them, but they will not answer them, and they will see the torment, (and then will they wish) if only they had been guided.
65. (Mention) the Day when He will call them and say: "What was the response you gave to the messengers (of God)?"
66. Then all excuses will become obscure to them on that Day, nor will they ask one another.
67. As to him who repents and believes and does good, he will be among the happy and prosperous (in the Hereafter).
68. Your Lord (Allah) creates whatever He wills and chooses. The choice is not theirs19. Glory be to Allah, and exalted be He above the idols they associate with Him in worship.
19. Muhammad, God's messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to teach his companions to seek guidance from God in all things, just as he used to teach them a chapter from the Qur'an. He said: If any one of you is concerned about a decision he has to make, then let him pray two rak’ahs of non-obligatory prayer, then say: (O Allah, I seek Your guidance [in making a choice] by virtue of Your knowledge, and I seek ability by virtue of Your power, and I ask You of Your great bounty. You have power, I have none. And You know, I know not. You are the Knower of hidden things. O Allah, if in Your knowledge, this matter (then it should be mentioned by name) is good for me in my religion, my livelihood, and my affairs (i.e., both in this world and in the Hereafter), then ordain it for me, make it easy for me, and bless it for me. And if in Your knowledge it is bad for me and for my religion, my livelihood and my affairs (or: for me both in this world and the next life), then turn me away from it, and turn it away from me, and ordain for me the good wherever it may be, and make me pleased with it.
69. Your Lord (Allah) knows what their chests conceal or reveal.
70. He is Allah, there is no (True) God (worthy of worship) except Him. All praise is due to Him in this (life) and the Hereafter. His is the Judgment, and to Him you shall be (all) returned.
71. Say: "Tell me, if Allah were to make the night to continue without break over you till the Day of Resurrection, is there any God other than Allah that could bring you light20? Do you not then hear?"
20. Darkness can be bad for us. If we spend too much time out of reach of daylight, we lose track of time, we are more likely to feel depressed and we are more prone to lose touch with reality. Scientific research shows that prolonged exposure to darkness can very quickly disrupt our internal rhythms, our sense of self and our relationship with the world around us. We are creatures of the day, and though we need darkness in order to sleep, we need light in order to live.
72. Say: "Tell me, if Allah were to make the day to continue without break over you until the Day of Resurrection, is there any God other than Allah that could bring you the night in which you take rest21? Do you not then see?"
21. A good night’s sleep and rest is a priceless gift from Allah. Healthy sleep restores strength and well-being to the human body and refreshes the mind and spirit. Sleep recreates. The Qur’an indicates that sleep is not meant only for the recuperation of a man’s body, but that there is a tremendous furtherance of spiritual and moral life during sleep and rest.
73. It is out of His mercy that He (Allah) has made for you the night and the day, that you may rest therein, and seek of His bounty, and that you may give thanks.
74. (Warn) of the Day when Allah will call them and say: "Where are your idols whom you deemed to be My associates in worship?"
75. We shall draw forth from among every nation a witness and say (to the sinners): "Bring your proof," then they will know that the Truth is with Allah alone, and that which they invented (of false gods) will depart from them.
76. Qarun (Korah) was of the people of Moses, but he tyrannized them, and We had given him of the treasures, of which the keys would have been a burden for a band of strong men. When (they saw his arrogance) his people said to him: "Do not exult, Allah does not like those who exult (in wealth and are pride)22;
22. When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. Allah detests all the proud of heart. Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Money that makes you arrogant is poverty. The knowledge that makes you haughty is ignorance. The position that makes you mighty is
decadence. And the power that makes you tyrant is weakness. Real wealth, prestige, and knowledge are found in the humble.
The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, the most humble man, used to milk his goat and polish his shoes, and sew his dress, and race with his wife Aisha.
He wipes away the tears of his wife, Safia.
And when his companions divided the tasks of slaughtering the sheep. One of them said, “I will slaughter it,” and the other said, “I will skin it.” The Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and exalt his mention, said: I am bringing firewood.
77. Seek the gains of what Allah has given you the (future) Home of the Hereafter. Do not neglect your portion of this world. Do good (to others) as Allah has done good to you. And do not seek to make corruption in the land. Indeed, Allah does not like the corrupters.
78. (Korah) said: "I have been given this only because of the knowledge I have." Did he not know that Allah had destroyed before him of the (sinful) generations those who were mightier in strength than him and greater in what they had amassed? The wicked will not be asked about their sins23.
23. In order to verify them, but only to rebuke and punish them by their sins.
79. So he went forth to his people in his finery. Those who desire this worldly life said: "O would that we had the like of what Korah is given; he is a possessor of great fortune."
80. But those who were given the (right) knowledge said: "Woe to you. Allah’s reward is better for him who believes and does good deeds. And none attain this except the patient ones."
81. Thus We made the earth to swallow him up (Korah) and his home; and there was for him no company to help him against Allah, nor could he defend himself.
82. Those who yearned for his place only the day before began to say: "Ah! (know) that Allah amplifies and straitens the means of subsistence for whom He wills of His slaves (of mankind and jinn). Had not Allah been gracious to us, He would have abased us. Alas! (Know) that the deniers will never succeed.
83. The (future) Home of the Hereafter (Paradise), We assign it to those who have no desire to exalt themselves in the earth, nor to make corruption. The good outcome is for the righteous.
84. Whoever shall come with a good deed, he will have better than it. Whoever shall come with an evil deed, those who do evil, will not be recompensed anything except for what they used to do.
