89. And said: "I am sick9."
9. It was narrated that Abraham (peace be upon him) did not tell a lie except on three occasions, twice for the sake of Allāh (Exalted and Almighty) when he said: “I am sick,” (when his people were holding a festival in honor of their idols, Abraham excused himself by saying he was sick, and when he said: “(I have not done this but) the big idol has done it.” The (third was) that while Ibraham and Sara (his wife) were going (on a journey), they passed by (the territory of) a tyrant. Someone said to the tyrant: “This man (i.e., Abraham) is accompanied by a very charming lady.” So, he sent for Abraham and asked him about Sara saying: “Who is this lady?” Abraham said: “She is my sister.”
This is not from real lying statements, but from ambiguous statements. The word “he did not lie” has been used metaphorically.
Some say, “saqim” means afflicted with plague. The people of that time were afraid of the plague, so he used this word for them to turn away from him. Some say, it means, a spiritually ill person, from your worshipping the idols other than Allāh.

91. He then turned to their idols and said 'mockingly': "Will you not eat 'of the offerings before you'?
92. What is the matter with you that you do not speak?"

96. While Allāh has created you and what you make."
97. They said: "Build for him a furnace, then cast him into the burning fire."
98. They sought a plot against him but We made them the most debased.

100. Lord 'Allāh', grant me a righteous son."
101. So We gave him the good news of a forbearing son 'i.e., Ishmael'.
102. When 'the son' reached 'the age' of working with him, Abraham said: "O my son, I have seen in a dream that I should sacrifice you; look then, what do you think." 'Ishmael' said: "O my father, do what you are commanded; if Allāh wills, you will find me patient."
103. When they both "Abraham and Ishmael' submitted 'to the Command of Allāh', and Abraham laid him 'Ishmael' down upon his forehead 'for sacrifice',
104.We called to him 'saying': "Abraham,
105. You have indeed fulfilled the vision." Thus do We reward the good-doers.
106. This was certainly the manifest trial.
107. And We ransomed him 'Ishmael' with a great sacrifice 'with that of a ram'.
108. And We left for him 'favourable mention' among later generations.
109. Peace 'and honor' be for Abraham.
110. Thus do We reward the good-doers.
111. He was truly one of Our faithful servants.
112. And 'in time' We gave him the good news of Isaac, a prophet from among the righteous.
113. We blessed him and Isaac. But among their descendants is the doer of good, and the openly unjust to himself.
114. We certainly bestowed Our favor upon Moses and Aaron.
115. And delivered them and their people from the great distress10.
10. i.e., Pharaoh’s enslavement of them.
116. We helped them, so they were the victorious.
117. We gave them the clear Scripture.
118. And guided them to the straight Path 'of Islam'.
119. And left for them 'favourable mention' among later generations.
120. Peace and honor be for Moses and Aaron.
121. Thus do We reward the good-doers.
122. Indeed, they were of Our faithful servants.
123. Ilyas 'Elijah' was certainly a messenger 'of Allāh'.
124. He said to his people: "Will you not fear Allāh and shun evil?
125. Do you worship Ba’al 'an idol', and forsake the Best of creators,
126. Allāh, your Lord and Lord of your forefathers?
127. But they rejected him, so they will certainly be brought 'to the Hell'.
128. Except the sincere servants of Allāh.
129. We left 'favourable mention' of him among later generations.
130. Peace and honor be for Ilyas 'Elijah'.
131. Thus do We reward the good-doers.
132. He was truly one of Our faithful servants.
133. Lot was indeed one of the messengers 'of Allāh'.
134. We delivered him and his family, all -
135. Except an old woman11 among those who remained behind (with the evil doers).
11. Lot’s wife, who was a disbeliever.
136. Then We totally destroyed the others.
137. You pass by 'their ruined town' in the morning,
138. And at night. Do you not then understand?
139. Yunus 'Jonah' was certainly one of the messenger 'of Allāh'.
140. He (abandoned his people) and ran away to a laden ship,
141. Then he drew lots with them, but he lost12.
12. And was thrown into the sea.
142. Then the whale swallowed him while he was blameworthy.
143. Had he not been of those who exalt Allāh and glorify Him,
144. He would certainly have remained in the whale's belly to the Day when they are resurrected.
145. But We cast him onto the open shore while he was ill13.
13. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: “Feed the hungry, visit the sick and free the captives.”
He also said, “There is no one who visits a (sick) person in the morning but seventy thousand angels send blessings upon him until evening comes, and if he visits him in the evening, seventy thousand angels send blessings upon him until morning comes.”
146. And caused to grow over him a gourd 'squash' vine14.
14. For its cooling shade and as food for him.
147. We sent him to a hundred thousand, or more people.
148. They believed, so We let them enjoy life for a while.
149. Ask them, does 'Allāh' your Lord have daughters 'as they claim', while 'they prefer to' have sons15?
15. The pagans claimed that angels were Allah’s daughters, while preferring sons for themselves.

150. Or did We create the angels females and they are witnesses 'thereto'?
151. It is only of their own lie that they say:
152. "Allah has children." And they are certainly liars.
153. Has He chosen daughters over sons?
154. What is the matter with you, how do you judge16,
16. That God has children - the angels being His daughters, and choose for you the sons?
155. Will you not then take heed?
156. Or have you a compelling proof?
157. Then bring your scripture, if you are truthful.
158. They assert a kinship between Him 'Allāh' and the angels. Yet the angels know that they (who make such a claim) will be brought forth (to the Punishment of Hell).
159. Glory be to Allāh, (He is Exalted, above) what they describe.
160.Except the sincere servants of Allāh17.
17. Who do not share in that sin.
161. You 'pagans' and whatever you worship 'of false gods',
162. Cannot mislead anyone,
163. Except him who is 'destined' to burn in the Hell.
164. "The angels say", there is none of us but has an assigned place,
165. We are indeed those who stand in ranks 'for Allāh',
166. And We glorify Allāh and praise Him.
167. But they 'the pagans' used to say:
168. "If only we had a Reminder 'Scripture' as those of old.
169. We would have been the sincere servants of Allāh."
170. But 'now' they have rejected it 'the Qur’an', so they will soon come to know.18
18. The consequences of their disbelif of the Qur’an and the Prophet Muhammad.
171. Our Word 'Decree' has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers 'of God',
172. That they would certainly be victorious,
173. And that Our soldiers will be the triumphant.
174. So turn away from them 'the deniers' for a while,
175. See for whom (will befall the torment), for they are going to see.
176. Would they then hasten on Our torment?
177. When it19 descends into their territory, it will be terrible the morning of those who were warned.
19. God’s punishment.
178. So turn away from them for a while.
179. And see, for they too will see.
180. Glory be to 'Allāh' your Lord20, the Lord of Might, above what they describe.
20. Glorify Allāh, the Lord of Abraham, Noah, Moses, Jesus Christ, Muhammad, the Lord of all the messengers of God, Lord of all the creation.
181. Peace be upon the messengers 'of Allāh'.
182. All Praise be to Allāh, Lord of all beings.
