1. The Qur’an is made up of such letters from the Arabic alphabet. The Arabs at the time of revelation were the unmatched masters of the Arabic language and yet when challenged were totally unable to bring anything like the Qur’an. Although these disjointed Arabic letters are referring to the inimitable nature of the Qur’an and its divine source, God knows best its meaning.
5. Whoever hopes for the Meeting with Allāh³, then the term appointed by Allāh is surely coming (so let him prepare for it). Allāh is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
3. The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him, said: “Allāh Almighty says: Whoever comes with a good deed will have the reward of ten like it and even more. And whoever comes with an evil deed will be recompensed for one evil deed like it or he will be forgiven. Whoever draws close to Me by the length of a hand, I will draw close to him by the length of an arm. And whoever draws close to Me by the length of an arm, I will draw close to him by the length of a fathom. Whoever comes to Me walking, I will come to him running. For whoever meets Me with enough sins to fill the earth, not associating any partners with Me, I will meet him with as much forgiveness.”
If we seek Allāh first, then all the things we need will be added to us. When we make Allāh first in life, we see Him working through all circumstances and events for our good. Whether you are just beginning to seek out Allāh or you have been a Muslim for years, we should never stop seeking to know Allāh better.
6. Whoever strives hard 'in Allah’s Cause', he strives only for his own good. For Allāh is in no need of all His creation⁴.
4. Allāh is One who does not need us at all. He exists independent of the world, as one who is Self-Sufficient and Self-Existent. But having said that, it is true that Allāh loves us. It is true that He longs for good relationship with us.
7. As for those who believe⁵ and do good deeds, We shall remove from them their evil deeds, and reward them according to the best of what they used to do.
5. In the Oneness of Allāh (Islamic Monotheism) and in the Messenger Muhammad, and do not give up their faith for the harm they get from the pagans and unbelievers.
8. We have enjoined on man to honor his parents6." But If they strive to make you associate (others) with Me, of which you have no (Divine) knowledge, do not obey them. to Me is your return, and I shall inform you of what you used to do.
6. Children, obey your parents in everything that not contradicts with the teachings of Islam, for this pleases Allāh. Repeatedly Allāh commands children to honor their parents with loving hearts of obedience. Children who demean or belittle their parents' leadership and decision making are clearly on a path to destruction. For Allāh commanded, ‘Honor your father and your mother that it may go well with you and that you may be blessed'.
10. Among the people is he who says: "We believe in Allāh." But when he is persecuted in (the Way of) Allāh, he considers the persecution (at the hands) of people as equal to the torment of Allāh. If there comes victory from (Allāh) your Lord, they (the hypocrites) would say: "We were with you." Is not Allah Most Knowing of what is in the chests of mankind?
11. Allāh will surely make evident those who believe, and He will surely make evident the hypocrites⁷.
7. I.e., Allâh will test the people with good and hard days to distinguish the good from the wicked, although Allâh knows all that before putting them to test.
12. Those who deny 'the Truth' say to those who believe: Follow our path and we shall bear (the consequences of) your sins. But never will they be the bearers of any of their sins. They are only liars.
13. They will certainly carry their own burdens (sins), and other burdens⁸ with their own burdens, and they will certainly be questioned on the Day of Resurrection about what they used to invent 'of lies'.
8. Of the people they misled, although it will not lessen the burden of the latter in any way.
17. You only worship idols besides Allāh, and invent lies. Those whom you worship besides Allāh do not possess for you any provision, so seek from Allāh provision, worship Him alone, and be grateful to Him. To Him you shall (all) be returned.
18. If you, (pagans), reject (the Message of Islam), certainly many (wicked) nations before you have also rejected¹⁰. Nothing is incumbent on the messenger but a plain delivering (of the Message).
10. If the wicked are ruling the nation, sin will be everywhere, but those who live righteously will win in the end. If a nation is not guided by Allāh, the people will lose self-control and follow self-indulgence which is satisfying their own sinful desires, lusts, and pleasures, but the nation that obeys Allah’s laws will be happy.
20. Say: "Travel throughout the land and see how He began the creation, then Allāh creates the latter creation. Indeed, Allāh is able to do all things."
24. So nothing was the answer of (Abraham’s) people except that they said: "Kill him or burn him." Then Allāh delivered him from the fire. In this there are certainly signs for a people who believe.
25. (Abraham) said 'to his people': "You have taken (for worship) idols besides Allāh, out of mutual love between yourselves in this worldly life¹², then on the Day of Resurrection you will deny one another, curse one another, your abode is the eternal Fire, and you shall not have any helpers (intercessors)."
12. Worshipping an idol in every people was the secret of unity between them and for every people there was a chosen idol. Worshipping idols also had created a relation between them and their ancestors and they often pretended by the same pretext that those things were the traces of their ancestors which they followed. Besides, the chiefs of the pagans invited their followers to worship idols and this was a ring of join between ‘the chiefs’ and their ‘followers’. But on the Day of the Resurrection, all these chaffy and rotten links will be broken, and everyone puts its sin on another one’s shoulder while he curses him and repudiates the deed of the other.
27. We granted to him Isaac and Jacob, and placed in his descendants the Prophethood and the Scripture, and We gave him his reward in this world, and indeed, in the Hereafter he is of the righteous.
28. And 'mention' Lot, when he said to his people, "Indeed, You are committing such indecency (homosexual acts) which none of the nations have ever done before you."
29. Do you approach men (with carnal relations), cut off the way¹³, and commit detestable acts in your meetings? But nothing was the answer of his people except that they said: "Bring on us Allah’s torment, if you are truthful."
13. I.e., commit highway robbery and aggression against travelers. Another meaning cut off the offspring by approaching the men as wives and leaving the women.
31. When Our (angelic) messengers came to Abraham with the good news (of the birth of Isaac), they said: "We are certainly going to destroy the people of this (Lot’s) town, for its people are evildoers."
32. He said: "Lot is there in that town." They said: "We know well who is in it. We shall deliver him and his family, except his spouse; she will be of those who will remain behind (to perish)."
33. When Our (angelic) messengers came to Lot, he was grieved, and felt discomfort and powerless (to protect them). They said: "Fear not¹⁴, nor grieve; we shall certainly deliver you and your family, except your spouse; she will be of those who remain behind (to perish)."
14. Allah’s precious people are commanded not to be afraid: “Fear not, for I will save you. Do not be afraid, for I am with you”. The pattern of “fear not . . . for” followed by a Divine action is consistently repeated in the Qur’an when Allāh instructs His people not to be afraid. Allah’s presence restrains fear. How reassuring to know that regardless of where life leads us, we need not fear. Even though you walk through the darkest valley, fear no evil, for Allāh is with you.
36. To (the people of) Midian (We sent) their brother Shu’aib, so he said: "My people, worship Allāh alone and hope (for the reward of) the Last Day, and do not go about in the land, spreading corruption."
38. (We destroyed the people of) ‘Aad and Thamud, and from their dwellings (this) is apparent to you indeed. Satan made their deeds fair-seeming to them, so he kept them back from the (right) Path (of Islam), though they were endowed with intelligence and (many) skills.
39. (We also destroyed) Korah, Pharaoh and Haman; and certainly Moses came to them with clear Signs, but they were puffed-up with pride in the land¹⁵, yet they could not escape Us.
15. Your pride will bring you down. Humility will bring you honor.
40. So each of them We seized for their sin. Some of them were struck by a violent sand-storm¹⁶, and some by a sudden blast of sound¹⁷, others were swallowed up by the earth¹⁸, and some were drowned¹⁹. Allāh did not do injustice to them, but they were unjust to their own selves.
16. i.e., Lot’s people.
17. Thamud and the people of Shuaib.
18. i.e., Korah.
19. the people of Noah and Pharoah.
41. The example of those who take guardians (lords, saviors) other than Allāh is as feeble as the spider's mesh. For the frailest of all houses is the spider’s mesh - if only they knew.
45. Recite that which has been revealed to you of the Book (the Qur’an) and keep up the prayer20. Indeed, the prayer keeps (one) away from indecency and sin21. And the Remembrance of Allāh is of greater merit. For Allāh knows what you do.
20. Get the Qur’an and read it. It is the Word of God, so you can't really go wrong there. Read the Qur’an to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be righteous. The Qur'an is light to direct you, spiritual food to support you and comfort to strength you. Contact with any nearby mosque and attend the congregational prayer there with the Muslims whom submit themselves to God.
21. Through prayer, we can overcome temptations to sin. Pray for Allah’s help to keep you from making wrong choices. This will give you the strength to do what is right.
46. Do not argue with the followers of the (past) Scripture (Jews and Christians) except in the best manner, except those among them that work iniquity, and say: "We believe in that which has been sent down to us 'of revelation' and sent down to you, and our God and your God is One 'i.e.,
Allāh', and to Him 'alone' we submit as Muslims²¹.
21. Mohammad, God's messenger (ﷺ) said: "By Allāh in Whose Hand my soul is. You will not enter Paradise until you believe (and submit to God), and you will not believe until you love one another".
And this is love: that we walk in obedience to Allah’s Commandments. His command is that you worship none but Him and believe in His messenger, the Prophet Muhammad, and that you walk in brotherhood and love with one another.
47. Thus We have sent down to you the Book (the Qur’an). So those (who are firm in knowledge) whom We have given the Scripture before believe in it²², and also of these (pagans) there are those (wise people) who believed in it. None reject Our verses (of the Qur’an) except the deniers.
22. For they find the description of the Qur’an and the Prophet Muhammad in the bible.
48. Never did you (Muhammad) recite any Scripture before this (the Qur’an), nor did you write one with your right hand, then the falsifiers would have had cause for doubt.
49. Rather, it (the Qur’an), is clear Verses in the hearts of those who are granted (right) knowledge. And none reject Our verses (of the Qur’an) except the unjust.
51. Is it not enough for them that We have sent down to you (Muhammad) the Book (the Qur’an) which is recited to them? There is certainly Mercy in this and a Reminder for a people who believe²³.
23. Muhammad, God's messenger said: "Not to wish to be the like of except two men: A man whom Allāh has taught the Qur’ân and he recites it during some hours of the night and during some hours of the day, and his neighbour listens to him and says: ‘I wish I had been given what has been given to so-and-so, so that I might do what he does;’ and a man whom Allāh has given wealth and he spends it (according to what Allāh has ordained) in a just and right manner, whereupon another man may say: ‘I wish I had been given what so-and-so has been given, for then I would do what he does.’"
52. Say: "Allāh is Enough as a Witness between me and you." He knows what is in the heavens and the earth. Those who believe in falsehood and disbelieve in Allāh - it is they who are the losers."
53. They ask you to hasten the torment on them. Had not a term been appointed, the torment would have come to them. And It will certainly come to them all of a sudden while they do not perceive.
58. As for those who believe and do righteous deeds, We shall house them in high dwellings in Paradise under which rivers flow, abiding therein forever. How excellent is the reward of the workers (of good):
61. If you ask them: "Who created the heavens and the earth, and has subjected the sun and the moon?" They will certainly say: "Allāh." How are they then turned away (from the Truth)?
63. And if you ask them: "Who is it that sends down water from the sky, then revives therewith the earth after its death;" they will say, "Allāh." Say: "All praise be to Allāh." But most of them do not understand.
65. So when they ride in the ships (and find themselves in danger) they call upon Allāh (alone), being sincere to Him in worship, but when He brings them safe to the land, at once they associate others with Him.
67. Have they not seen that We have made (Makkah) a safe sanctuary, while the people are snatched away²⁴ from all around them? Will they stil believe in falsehood, and deny Allah’s bounties?
68. Who is more unjust than one who invents a lie against Allāh, or rejects the Truth after it has come to him? Is not Hell the (fitting) Home for all the deniers?
69. As for those who strive hard in Our cause, We shall certainly guide them to Our Ways (of peace and salvation)²⁵. Allāh is certainly with the good-doers.
25. The various ways and means to attain the acceptance and Pleasure of Allāh.
