Translation of the meanings Surah: Al-Hāqqah   Ayah:

Al-Hāqqah

ٱلۡحَآقَّةُ
1. The Inevitable Hour.

مَا ٱلۡحَآقَّةُ
2. What is the Inevitable Hour?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡحَآقَّةُ
3. What will make you realize what the Inevitable Hour is?

كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ وَعَادُۢ بِٱلۡقَارِعَةِ
4. (The people of) Thamud and ‘Aad denied the striking Calamity (of the Hour).

فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهۡلِكُواْ بِٱلطَّاغِيَةِ
5. So as for [the people of] Thamud, they were destroyed by the Thunderbolt.

وَأَمَّا عَادٞ فَأُهۡلِكُواْ بِرِيحٖ صَرۡصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٖ
6. And as for (the people of) ‘Aad, they were destroyed by a screaming violent wind.

سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ سَبۡعَ لَيَالٖ وَثَمَٰنِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومٗاۖ فَتَرَى ٱلۡقَوۡمَ فِيهَا صَرۡعَىٰ كَأَنَّهُمۡ أَعۡجَازُ نَخۡلٍ خَاوِيَةٖ
7. Which 'Allāh' imposed on them for seven nights and eight days without cease, so that you might have seen the people therein lying overthrown as if they were hollow trunks of palm-trees.

فَهَلۡ تَرَىٰ لَهُم مِّنۢ بَاقِيَةٖ
8. Then do you see of them any remains?

وَجَآءَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ وَمَن قَبۡلَهُۥ وَٱلۡمُؤۡتَفِكَٰتُ بِٱلۡخَاطِئَةِ
9. Also, Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities (of Sodom and Gomorrah) indulged (continuously) in sin.

فَعَصَوۡاْ رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمۡ فَأَخَذَهُمۡ أَخۡذَةٗ رَّابِيَةً
10. So they disobeyed their Lord's messenger, so He seized them with a punishing Seizure, exceedingly severe.

إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَا ٱلۡمَآءُ حَمَلۡنَٰكُمۡ فِي ٱلۡجَارِيَةِ
11. Surely, when the water overflowed, We carried you in the floating Ship¹.
1. That was constructed by Noah.

لِنَجۡعَلَهَا لَكُمۡ تَذۡكِرَةٗ وَتَعِيَهَآ أُذُنٞ وَٰعِيَةٞ
12. That We might make it a Reminder for you, and that the attentive ear may retain it.

فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِي ٱلصُّورِ نَفۡخَةٞ وَٰحِدَةٞ
13. So when the trumpet is blown with a single blast,

وَحُمِلَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَٱلۡجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةٗ وَٰحِدَةٗ
14. And the earth and the mountains are lifted up and crushed with a single blow.

فَيَوۡمَئِذٖ وَقَعَتِ ٱلۡوَاقِعَةُ
15. On that Day the inevitable Event (of Resurrection) will occur,

وَٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَهِيَ يَوۡمَئِذٖ وَاهِيَةٞ
16. The sky will split asunder, so on that Day it will be frail,

وَٱلۡمَلَكُ عَلَىٰٓ أَرۡجَآئِهَاۚ وَيَحۡمِلُ عَرۡشَ رَبِّكَ فَوۡقَهُمۡ يَوۡمَئِذٖ ثَمَٰنِيَةٞ
17. And the angels are at its edges; and eight 'great rows of angels' will that Day carry the Throne of your Lord above them.

يَوۡمَئِذٖ تُعۡرَضُونَ لَا تَخۡفَىٰ مِنكُمۡ خَافِيَةٞ
18. On that Day you will be brought forth 'before your Lord for Judgment' - none of your secrets will remain hidden.

فَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ هَآؤُمُ ٱقۡرَءُواْ كِتَٰبِيَهۡ
19. As for him who is given his record (of deeds) in his right hand, he will say: "Here it is, read my record 'of deeds'."

إِنِّي ظَنَنتُ أَنِّي مُلَٰقٍ حِسَابِيَهۡ
20. I surely knew that I shall meet my reckoning.

فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةٖ رَّاضِيَةٖ
21. So he will be in a pleasant life,

فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٖ
22. In a lofty garden,

قُطُوفُهَا دَانِيَةٞ
23. Its picked 'fruits' are near at hand:

كُلُواْ وَٱشۡرَبُواْ هَنِيٓـَٔۢا بِمَآ أَسۡلَفۡتُمۡ فِي ٱلۡأَيَّامِ ٱلۡخَالِيَةِ
24. (They will be told): "Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did beforehand in the days past."

وَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِشِمَالِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ يَٰلَيۡتَنِي لَمۡ أُوتَ كِتَٰبِيَهۡ
25. As for him who is given his record (of deeds) in his left hand, he will say: "O would that my record had never been given to me,

وَلَمۡ أَدۡرِ مَا حِسَابِيَهۡ
26. And had not known what is my account,
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
يَٰلَيۡتَهَا كَانَتِ ٱلۡقَاضِيَةَ
27. O would that death had taken me away for good,
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
مَآ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنِّي مَالِيَهۡۜ
28. My wealth has availed me nothing,
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
هَلَكَ عَنِّي سُلۡطَٰنِيَهۡ
29. My authority has vanished!
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوهُ
30. (It will be said): "Seize him and shackle him,"
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
ثُمَّ ٱلۡجَحِيمَ صَلُّوهُ
31. Then burn him in Hell,
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
ثُمَّ فِي سِلۡسِلَةٖ ذَرۡعُهَا سَبۡعُونَ ذِرَاعٗا فَٱسۡلُكُوهُ
32. Then tie him with a chain, the length of which is seventy cubits.

إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لَا يُؤۡمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
33. For he did not believe in Allāh, the Most Great,

وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ
34. Nor would he encourage feeding the destitute;
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فَلَيۡسَ لَهُ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ هَٰهُنَا حَمِيمٞ
35. So he has not here today any intimate friend,

وَلَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنۡ غِسۡلِينٖ
36. Nor any food except 'smelly' discharges 'from the wounds',
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
لَّا يَأۡكُلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلۡخَٰطِـُٔونَ
37. None will eat it except the sinners.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِمَا تُبۡصِرُونَ
38. So I [God] swear by what you see,
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
وَمَا لَا تُبۡصِرُونَ
39. And what you do not see.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوۡلُ رَسُولٖ كَرِيمٖ
40. Indeed, (this Qur’an) is the (inspired) Word of (God brought by) a noble Messenger²,
2. I.e., the Prophet Muhammad
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوۡلِ شَاعِرٖۚ قَلِيلٗا مَّا تُؤۡمِنُونَ
41.And it is not the saying of a poet - little do you believe,
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
وَلَا بِقَوۡلِ كَاهِنٖۚ قَلِيلٗا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ
42. Nor is it the word of a soothsayer3 - little it is that you remember.
3. Muhammad, God's Messenger (ﷺ) said: “He is not a believer who seeks omens or has omens interpreted for him; or who practices fortunetelling or has his fortune told; or who practices magic or goes to have it done for him; and whoever goes to a soothsayer and believes in what he says has disbelieved in (God and) His Scripture." Omens are not true. Omens are not from Allāh (God). So one should not listen to any religion, scriptures, tradition, customs, or parents and elders, that give authenticity to omens.

تَنزِيلٞ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
43. This 'Qur’an' is a Revelation sent down from 'Allāh' Lord of all beings.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
وَلَوۡ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيۡنَا بَعۡضَ ٱلۡأَقَاوِيلِ
44. Had (Muhammad) fabricated some 'false' sayings against Us,
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
لَأَخَذۡنَا مِنۡهُ بِٱلۡيَمِينِ
45. We would have seized him by the right hand (a mighty and powerful seizing)⁴,
4. Another interpretation is "by [Our] right Hand," and Allāh would have exacted revenge with might and power.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
ثُمَّ لَقَطَعۡنَا مِنۡهُ ٱلۡوَتِينَ
46. Then We would certainly have cut-off the aorta.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فَمَا مِنكُم مِّنۡ أَحَدٍ عَنۡهُ حَٰجِزِينَ
47. And none of you could prevent us from him.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَتَذۡكِرَةٞ لِّلۡمُتَّقِينَ
48. Indeed, this 'Qur’an' is a reminder for the righteous.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
وَإِنَّا لَنَعۡلَمُ أَنَّ مِنكُم مُّكَذِّبِينَ
49. And We know that some of you will deny it.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَسۡرَةٌ عَلَى ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ
50. And surely it is indeed a a source of regret to the disbelievers.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَقُّ ٱلۡيَقِينِ
51. And indeed, this 'Qur’an' is the absolute Truth.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فَسَبِّحۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
52. So glorify the Name of your Lord 'Allāh' the Most Great5.
5. The Prophet Muhammad, while he was bowing down in the prayer, he would say: (Subhana Rabbiyal Azim); “Glorious is 'Allāh' my Lord, the Magnificent” and while prostrating: (Subhana Rabbiyal A’la) ‘Glorious is 'Allāh' my Lord, the Most High.’
Exalting Allāh, Lord of the epeople, King of the people, God of the people, praising His Name. Great is Allāh the Lord and most worthy of praise; His greatness no one can encompass."
