Al-Burūj

1 : 85

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلۡبُرُوجِ

1. (Consider) the heaven comprising the constellations,

2 : 85

وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡمَوۡعُودِ

2. And the Promised Day (of Judgment),

3 : 85

وَشَاهِدٖ وَمَشۡهُودٖ

3. And a witness (the Prophet Muhammad) and that which is witnessed ^[1].

[1]. I.e., The Day of Judgment.

4 : 85

قُتِلَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡأُخۡدُودِ

4. Perished be the makers of the trench.

5 : 85

ٱلنَّارِ ذَاتِ ٱلۡوَقُودِ

5. The fire (pit) filled with fuel (kept burning) ^[2] -

[2]. To torture the believers in it.

6 : 85

إِذۡ هُمۡ عَلَيۡهَا قُعُودٞ

6. While they were sitting around it (watching) ^[3],

[3]. As executioners and spectators.

7 : 85

وَهُمۡ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفۡعَلُونَ بِٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ شُهُودٞ

7. And they (themselves), of what they doing against the believers are witnesses.

8 : 85

وَمَا نَقَمُواْ مِنۡهُمۡ إِلَّآ أَن يُؤۡمِنُواْ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلۡعَزِيزِ ٱلۡحَمِيدِ

8. And they resented them not except that they believed in Allāh, the All-Mighty, the Praiseworthy,

9 : 85

ٱلَّذِي لَهُۥ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ شَهِيدٌ

9. To Whom belongs the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth. Allāh is a Witness over all things.

10 : 85

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ فَتَنُواْ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمۡ يَتُوبُواْ فَلَهُمۡ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابُ ٱلۡحَرِيقِ

10. Indeed, those who persecute the believing men and women and then do not repent, will have the torment of Gehinnom, and they will have the torment of the burning Fire.

11 : 85

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُمۡ جَنَّٰتٞ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡكَبِيرُ

11. Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds, they will have Gardens under which rivers flow - that is the great achievement.

12 : 85

إِنَّ بَطۡشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ

12. Indeed, the Grip ^[4] of your Lord (Allah) is surely Severe.

[4]. Seizure and Vengeance.

13 : 85

إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ يُبۡدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ

13. Indeed, It is He (Allāh) Who originates (creation) and repeats ^[5],

[5]. To life after death for Judgment. We know how dearly Allāh loves us, because he has sent us his messenger Muhammad ﷺ to guide us to the straight path. So now we can rejoice, because of the Qur’an He sent down to us, and the messenger he sent to us i.e., Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Any person who meets Allāh, while testifying that there is no god worthy of worship except Allāh, and that Muhammad is His last and final Messenger, without entertaining any doubt about it, will not be barred from entering Heaven.

14 : 85

وَهُوَ ٱلۡغَفُورُ ٱلۡوَدُودُ

14. And He (Allāh) is the Oft-Forgiving, the The Ever-Affectionate ^[6],

[6]. Allāh is the Creator, who is, in his very nature, loving and kind. Love is from Him. He is loving and merciful toward his creatures, and no creature experiences that love and mercy in a more intense or special way than the creature made in Allah’s own image, namely man. So If you do not have love and affection, you are nothing. If you do not have love and kindness, you gain nothing of that you may boast of doing good deeds. The believer is patient, kind and loving. He does not envy, not boast, he is not proud. Allāh, Our Lord is All-Forgiving, All-Embracing in His love.

15 : 85

ذُو ٱلۡعَرۡشِ ٱلۡمَجِيدُ

15. Owner of the Throne, the Glorious,

16 : 85

فَعَّالٞ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ

16. 'The great' doer of whatever He intends.

17 : 85

هَلۡ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلۡجُنُودِ

17. Has there reached you the story of the soldiers?

18 : 85

فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَثَمُودَ

18. Pharaoh and Thamud?

19 : 85

بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ فِي تَكۡذِيبٖ

19. Rather those who disbelieve (in the truth) are in continuous denial.

20 : 85

وَٱللَّهُ مِن وَرَآئِهِم مُّحِيطُۢ

20. While Allāh encompasses them from behind ^[7].

[7]. I.e., all sides and will requite them for their misdeeds.

21 : 85

بَلۡ هُوَ قُرۡءَانٞ مَّجِيدٞ

21. Nay, it is a glorious Quran.

22 : 85

فِي لَوۡحٖ مَّحۡفُوظِۭ

22. In a Preserved Tablet.
