1 : 74

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡمُدَّثِّرُ

1. O you (Prophet) wrapped 'in garment' [¹]. info

1. Out of fear from what he has seen - the angel Gabriel for the first time.

2 : 74

قُمۡ فَأَنذِرۡ

2. Arise and warn [2], info

2. The world from their unrighteousness. For Allāh so cared the world, he send his beloved, last and final messenger, the Prophet Muhammad, that whoever believes in Allāh and His messenger Muhammad should not perish but have eternal life.

3 : 74

وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرۡ

3. And your Lord (Allāh alone) magnify. info

4 : 74

وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرۡ

4. And your clothing purify [3], info

3. From the impurities and yourself from the sins, keeping a moral character.

5 : 74

وَٱلرُّجۡزَ فَٱهۡجُرۡ

5. (Continue to) shun idols [4], info

3. and from all abomination and bad conduct and morals.

6 : 74

وَلَا تَمۡنُن تَسۡتَكۡثِرُ

6. And do not confer (O Prophet) favor to acquire more (in return) [5], info

5. When we reach out to others to help, not because of what we might receive, but because of God’s Love, and so that we receive far greater blessing from Him only.

7 : 74

وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصۡبِرۡ

7. And for the Sake of (Allāh) your Lord, be patient. info

8 : 74

فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِي ٱلنَّاقُورِ

8. So when the trumpet is blown [6], info

6. The second time, causing all to rise from the dead for the great Judgment of God.

9 : 74

فَذَٰلِكَ يَوۡمَئِذٖ يَوۡمٌ عَسِيرٌ

9. That Day then, (will be) a difficult day, info

10 : 74

عَلَى ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ غَيۡرُ يَسِيرٖ

10. For the disbelievers - not easy. info

11 : 74

ذَرۡنِي وَمَنۡ خَلَقۡتُ وَحِيدٗا

11. Leave to Me (to deal with) and whom I created (bare and) lonely [7], info

7. i.e., having no wealth or children. This refers to al-Walīd bin al-Mughīrah, who was impressed by the Qur’an, yet he publicly denied it to win the approval of the pagans.

12 : 74

وَجَعَلۡتُ لَهُۥ مَالٗا مَّمۡدُودٗا

12. And (to whom) I made for him extended money, info

وَبَنِينَ شُهُودٗا

13. and sons as (serving) witnesses (present with him). info

14 : 74

وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمۡهِيدٗا

14. And I paved for him (everything in life) easily and comfortably. info

15 : 74

ثُمَّ يَطۡمَعُ أَنۡ أَزِيدَ

15. Then aspires that I should give him more (8]! info

8. Despite his denial of Me.

16 : 74

كَلَّآۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِأٓيَٰتِنَا عَنِيدٗا

16. By no means! He was to Our verses (of the Qur’an) stubborn [9]. info

9. The Qur’an that I revealed to My messenger, the Prophet Muhammad, denying them.

17 : 74

سَأُرۡهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا

17. I will exhaust him in a (painful) ascending [10]. info

10. To climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa‘ûd, or face a severe torment!

إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ

18. Indeed, he thought and plotted [11]. info

11. In order to refute the Qur’an.
