216. Fighting is ordained for you (when and where necessary), though you dislike it; and it may be that you dislike a thing while it is good for you, and it may be that you love a thing while it is bad for you. Allāh knows, while you do not know.
217. They ask you about the Sacred month79 fighting in it. Say: "Fighting in it is a grave matter (offence)." But hindering (the people) from Allah’s Way and denying Him, and (hindering people from) the Sacred mosque (in Makkah), and turning its people out of it are graver in the Sight of Allāh. Idolatry is worse than killing. They (the pagans) will not cease fighting with you until they turn you back from your religion if they can. Whoever of you turns back from his religion and dies as a denier - these are they whose deeds shall be void in this world and the Hereafter. They are the inmates of the Fire, therein they will abide forever.

They ask you as to what they should spend. Say: "The surplus (beyond your needse)81." Thus does Allāh make clear to you the Verses, that you may reflect.
80. The Prophet Muhammad said, "From among the portents of the Hour are the following: "General ignorance (in religious matters), (religious) knowledge will decrease, fornication will spread, alcoholic drinks will be drunk (in abundance), men will decrease and women will increase."
