At-Tāriq

อายะฮ์: 1

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ

1. 'I swear' by the sky and the night comer1.

1 I.e., the bright star.

อายะฮ์: 2

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ

2. And what makes you know what is the night comer?

อายะฮ์: 3

ٱلنَّجۡمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ

3. (It is) the piercing star;

อายะฮ์: 4

إِن كُلُّ نَفۡسٖ لَّمَّا عَلَيۡهَا حَافِظٞ

4. There is no soul but that it has over it a guardian2.

2. I.e., angels in charge of each human being guarding him, writing his good and bad deeds.

อายะฮ์: 5

فَلۡيَنظُرِ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ

5. So let man consider from what he is created -

อายะฮ์: 6

خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٖ دَافِقٖ

6. He was created from a (seminal) fluid pouring forth,

อายะฮ์: 7

يَخۡرُجُ مِنۢ بَيۡنِ ٱلصُّلۡبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ

7. Coming forth from between the loins (of man) and the rib cages (of woman).

อายะฮ์: 8

إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجۡعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٞ

8. Indeed, He (Allāh) is Able to return him (to life after his death, for Judgment).

อายะฮ์: 9

يَوۡمَ تُبۡلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ

9. On the Day when all secrets are exposed (examined and judged),

อายะฮ์: 10

فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةٖ وَلَا نَاصِرٖ

10. So he (i.e., the disbeliever on that Day) will have neither strength nor helper.

อายะฮ์: 11

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجۡعِ

11. 'I swear' by the sky which sends back3.

3. I.e., rain, heat, sound waves, etc.

อายะฮ์: 12

وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدۡعِ

12. And by the earth that cracks open4.

4. I.e., for sprouting plants.

อายะฮ์: 13

إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوۡلٞ فَصۡلٞ

13. Indeed, this Qur’an is a decisive statement,

อายะฮ์: 14

وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلۡهَزۡلِ

14. And it is not idle talk (to be taken lightly).

อายะฮ์: 15

إِنَّهُمۡ يَكِيدُونَ كَيۡدٗا

15. Surely, they (the disbelievers) are plotting a plot,

อายะฮ์: 16

وَأَكِيدُ كَيۡدٗا

16. And I am planning a plan.

อายะฮ์: 17

فَمَهِّلِ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ أَمۡهِلۡهُمۡ رُوَيۡدَۢا

17. So give respite to the disbelievers; give them respite a little while5.

5. I.e., Do not be in haste in seeking their Doom.
