Ar-Rahmān

1 : 55

ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ

1. The Most Gracious (Allāh),

2 : 55

عَلَّمَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ

2. taught the Qur’an,

3 : 55

خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ

3. created man,

4 : 55

عَلَّمَهُ ٱلۡبَيَانَ

4. And He taught him eloquence

5 : 55

ٱلشَّمۡسُ وَٱلۡقَمَرُ بِحُسۡبَانٖ

5. The sun and the moon run by
precise calculation.

6 : 55

وَٱلنَّجۡمُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ يَسۡجُدَانِ

6. And the star ^[1] and the trees both prostrate (and submit to Allāh).

[1]. Another meaning: The herbs and the trees...

7 : 55

وَٱلسَّمَآءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ ٱلۡمِيزَانَ

7. And the sky, He (Allāh) raised it high, and set up the balance (of justice).

8 : 55

أَلَّا تَطۡغَوۡاْ فِي ٱلۡمِيزَانِ

8. That you may not transgress in the Balance.

9 : 55

وَأَقِيمُواْ ٱلۡوَزۡنَ بِٱلۡقِسۡطِ وَلَا تُخۡسِرُواْ ٱلۡمِيزَانَ

9. And keep up the weighing with equity and do not cause loss in the Balance.

10 : 55

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَضَعَهَا لِلۡأَنَامِ

10. And the earth, He laid out for all beings -

11 : 55

فِيهَا فَٰكِهَةٞ وَٱلنَّخۡلُ ذَاتُ ٱلۡأَكۡمَامِ

11. Therein are fruits and date-palms having sheathed clusters (of dates),

12 : 55

وَٱلۡحَبُّ ذُو ٱلۡعَصۡفِ وَٱلرَّيۡحَانُ

12. And the grain with (its) husk and fragrance.

13 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

13. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you (Jinn and mankind) both deny?

14 : 55

خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِن صَلۡصَٰلٖ كَٱلۡفَخَّارِ

14. He created man (i.e., Adam) from dry clay like the pottery,

15 : 55

وَخَلَقَ ٱلۡجَآنَّ مِن مَّارِجٖ مِّن نَّارٖ

15. And He created the Jann ^[2] (Iblees, father of the Jinn) from a smokeless flame of fire.

[2]. Muhammad, God's messenger (ﷺ) said: "Angels were created from light, jinn (i.e., Satan) was created from a smokeless flame of fire, and 'Adam was created from that which you have been told (i.e., sounding clay like the clay of pottery)."

16 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

16. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

17 : 55

رَبُّ ٱلۡمَشۡرِقَيۡنِ وَرَبُّ ٱلۡمَغۡرِبَيۡنِ

17. Lord of the two sunrises and Lord of the two sunsets ^[3].

[3]. I.e., the points of sunrise in the east and sunset in the west in both summer and winter.

18 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

18. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

19 : 55

مَرَجَ ٱلۡبَحۡرَيۡنِ يَلۡتَقِيَانِ

19. He released the two seas (of fresh and salt water).They meet,

20 : 55

بَيۡنَهُمَا بَرۡزَخٞ لَّا يَبۡغِيَانِ

20. (Yet) between them both is a barrier that they transgress not.

21 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

21. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

22 : 55

يَخۡرُجُ مِنۡهُمَا ٱللُّؤۡلُؤُ وَٱلۡمَرۡجَانُ

22. From both of them (the two seas) come out pearl and coral.

23 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

23. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

24 : 55

وَلَهُ ٱلۡجَوَارِ ٱلۡمُنشَـَٔاتُ فِي ٱلۡبَحۡرِ كَٱلۡأَعۡلَٰمِ

24. To Him belong the running (ships) ^[4] sailing through the sea lofty like mountains.

[4]. Which became possible only by His Power and Grace. All creativity and invention of human beings issues forth from His gifts of mind and body. So all man-made things belong to Him.

25 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

25. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

26 : 55

كُلُّ مَنۡ عَلَيۡهَا فَانٖ

26. Everyone on it (the earth) will perish.

27 : 55

وَيَبۡقَىٰ وَجۡهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو ٱلۡجَلَٰلِ وَٱلۡإِكۡرَامِ

27. The (Noble) Face of your Lord (Allāh), Glorified and Honored will abide forever.

28 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

28. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

29 : 55

يَسۡـَٔلُهُۥ مَن فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ كُلَّ يَوۡمٍ هُوَ فِي شَأۡنٖ

29.  All those who are in the heavens and the earth ask of Him. Every day He is engaged in some matter ^[5].

[5]. Such as the giving of life, the bringing of death, exalting and abasing individuals, giving abundantly and withholding, responding to a supplicating person and giving the one requesting, etc.

30 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

30. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

31 : 55

سَنَفۡرُغُ لَكُمۡ أَيُّهَ ٱلثَّقَلَانِ

31. We shall soon attend to you (for judgment) O you two prominent beings (of mankind and jinn).

32 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

32. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

33 : 55

يَٰمَعۡشَرَ ٱلۡجِنِّ وَٱلۡإِنسِ إِنِ ٱسۡتَطَعۡتُمۡ أَن تَنفُذُواْ مِنۡ أَقۡطَارِ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَٱنفُذُواْۚ لَا تَنفُذُونَ إِلَّا بِسُلۡطَٰنٖ

33. O assembly of jinn and men, if you are able to pass through the diameters of the heavens and the earth, then pass; you cannot pass through except with authority.

34 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

34. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

35 : 55

يُرۡسَلُ عَلَيۡكُمَا شُوَاظٞ مِّن نَّارٖ وَنُحَاسٞ فَلَا تَنتَصِرَانِ

35. There shall be sent against you both, flames of fire and molten brass. You will not be able to defend yourselves.

36 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

36. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

37 : 55

فَإِذَا ٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتۡ وَرۡدَةٗ كَٱلدِّهَانِ

37. When the heaven is split asunder, and becomes rose colored like red hid ^[6].

[6]. That is when the Day of Resurrection and judgement occurs.

38 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

38. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

39 : 55

فَيَوۡمَئِذٖ لَّا يُسۡـَٔلُ عَن ذَنۢبِهِۦٓ إِنسٞ وَلَا جَآنّٞ

39. Then on that Day neither man nor jinn will be questioned about his sin ^[7].

[7]. Because they are already known. They will only be interrogated as a form of punishment.

40 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

40. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

41 : 55

يُعۡرَفُ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ بِسِيمَٰهُمۡ فَيُؤۡخَذُ بِٱلنَّوَٰصِي وَٱلۡأَقۡدَامِ

41. The guilty will be recognised by their marks and they will be seized by the forelocks and the feet (then will be cast into Hellfire).

42 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

42. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

43 : 55

هَٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِي يُكَذِّبُ بِهَا ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ

43. This is Gehinnom 'Hell' which the guilty denied.

44 : 55

يَطُوفُونَ بَيۡنَهَا وَبَيۡنَ حَمِيمٍ ءَانٖ

44. They will circle around between it and hot scalding water.

45 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

45. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

46 : 55

وَلِمَنۡ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ جَنَّتَانِ

46. But for him who fears the standing (for account) before his Lord are two gardens.

47 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

47. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

48 : 55

ذَوَاتَآ أَفۡنَانٖ

48. Having (spreading) branches.

49 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

49. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

50 : 55

فِيهِمَا عَيۡنَانِ تَجۡرِيَانِ

50. In (both of) them are two springs, flowing.

51 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

51. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

52 : 55

فِيهِمَا مِن كُلِّ فَٰكِهَةٖ زَوۡجَانِ

52In (both of) them are two pairs of every fruit.

53 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

53. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

54 : 55

مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ فُرُشِۭ بَطَآئِنُهَا مِنۡ إِسۡتَبۡرَقٖۚ وَجَنَى ٱلۡجَنَّتَيۡنِ دَانٖ

54. Reclining on couches which the inner linings (are) of brocade; and the fruits of both the gardens are near at hand.

55 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

55. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

56 : 55

فِيهِنَّ قَٰصِرَٰتُ ٱلطَّرۡفِ لَمۡ يَطۡمِثۡهُنَّ إِنسٞ قَبۡلَهُمۡ وَلَا جَآنّٞ

56. In them are (chaste) women limiting (their) glances; no human or jinn has ever touched before them.

57 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

57. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

58 : 55

كَأَنَّهُنَّ ٱلۡيَاقُوتُ وَٱلۡمَرۡجَانُ

58. As though they were rubies and coral.

59 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

59. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

60 : 55

هَلۡ جَزَآءُ ٱلۡإِحۡسَٰنِ إِلَّا ٱلۡإِحۡسَٰنُ

60. Is the reward of good (and excellent deeds) other than good (the most excellent reward)?

61 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

61. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

62 : 55

وَمِن دُونِهِمَا جَنَّتَانِ

62. And besides them both, are two (other) gardens.

63 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

63. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

64 : 55

مُدۡهَآمَّتَانِ

64. Dark green (in color).

65 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

65. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

66 : 55

فِيهِمَا عَيۡنَانِ نَضَّاخَتَانِ

66. In (both of) them are two springs, spouting.

67 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

67. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

68 : 55

فِيهِمَا فَٰكِهَةٞ وَنَخۡلٞ وَرُمَّانٞ

68.In (both of) them are fruits, and palm-dates, and pomegranates.

69 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

69. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

70 : 55

فِيهِنَّ خَيۡرَٰتٌ حِسَانٞ

70. In them are good, pleasant maidens.
  

71 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

71.  So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

72 : 55

حُورٞ مَّقۡصُورَٰتٞ فِي ٱلۡخِيَامِ

72. Fair ones restrained in the pavilions.

73 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

73. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

74 : 55

لَمۡ يَطۡمِثۡهُنَّ إِنسٞ قَبۡلَهُمۡ وَلَا جَآنّٞ

74. No human or jinn has ever touched before them.

75 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

75. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

76 : 55

مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ رَفۡرَفٍ خُضۡرٖ وَعَبۡقَرِيٍّ حِسَانٖ

76. Reclining on green cushions and splendid carpets.

77 : 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

77. So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?

78 : 55

تَبَٰرَكَ ٱسۡمُ رَبِّكَ ذِي ٱلۡجَلَٰلِ وَٱلۡإِكۡرَامِ

78. Blessed is the Name of your Lord, the Owner of 'All' Majesty and Honor ^[8].

[8]. As we find hidden treasures in Allah's creation, may we enjoy each one,one, knowing there’s so much more awaiting us in heaven. There, we will worship Allah alone, our Creator and praise Him forever: “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being”.
