[2]. The Injīl (Evangel or Gospel) is the Arabic name for the Scripture revealed by Allāh to Jesus, the son of Mary.
In Islam, the Injīl is not to be identified with the existing Biblical “New Testament.” Rather, it is believed—based on the testimony of the Qur’an—to have been a complete divine revelation granted to Jesus himself.
However, the original Injīl was either lost or altered over time, and that what remains in the present-day Bible contains both truth and human additions. The same applies, to a great extent, to the Torah. Hence, not every word in today’s Bible is the Word of God, though certain passages are confirmed by the Qur’an as genuine remnants of divine revelation.
To claim that the entire Bible, as it exists now, is wholly the Word of God amounts to a serious error and disrespect toward the truth of divine revelation. The Qur’an alone stands as the only Book whose text has been perfectly preserved, free from distortion or inaccuracy, and every word within it is the unaltered Word of God.
