Al-Ghāshiyah

Aaya: 1

هَلۡ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلۡغَٰشِيَةِ

1. Has there reached you 'Muhammad' the news of the overwhelming Event?

Aaya: 2

وُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٍ خَٰشِعَةٌ

2. (Some) faces on that Day will be humbly downcast¹,

1. I.e., the faces of all deniers.

Aaya: 3

عَامِلَةٞ نَّاصِبَةٞ

3. Laboring hard and weary²,

2. Laboring hard in the worldly life by worshiping others instead of Allāh, weary in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace.

Aaya: 4

تَصۡلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةٗ

4. Burning in an intensely hot Fire,

Aaya: 5

تُسۡقَىٰ مِنۡ عَيۡنٍ ءَانِيَةٖ

5. Drinking from a fiercely boiling spring.

Aaya: 6

لَّيۡسَ لَهُمۡ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٖ

6. They will have no food other than poisonous thorny plant,

Aaya: 7

لَّا يُسۡمِنُ وَلَا يُغۡنِي مِن جُوعٖ

7. That neither nourishes nor satisfies against hunger.

Aaya: 8

وُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ نَّاعِمَةٞ

8. (Other) faces on that Day 'of Judgment' will be joyful,

Aaya: 9

لِّسَعۡيِهَا رَاضِيَةٞ

9. Well-pleased with their striving (for God’s Kingdom),

Aaya: 10

فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٖ

10. In an elevated garden,

Aaya: 11

لَّا تَسۡمَعُ فِيهَا لَٰغِيَةٗ

11. Wherein they will not hear any vain talk.

Aaya: 12

فِيهَا عَيۡنٞ جَارِيَةٞ

12. Therein is a flowing spring,

Aaya: 13

فِيهَا سُرُرٞ مَّرۡفُوعَةٞ

13. Therein are raised couches,

Aaya: 14

وَأَكۡوَابٞ مَّوۡضُوعَةٞ

14. And cups set at hand,

Aaya: 15

وَنَمَارِقُ مَصۡفُوفَةٞ

15. And 'fine' cushions lined up,

Aaya: 16

وَزَرَابِيُّ مَبۡثُوثَةٌ

16. And 'splendid' carpets all spread out.

Aaya: 17

أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلۡإِبِلِ كَيۡفَ خُلِقَتۡ

17. Do they 'the unbelievers' not look at the camels, how they are created?

Aaya: 18

وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيۡفَ رُفِعَتۡ

18. And at the sky - how it is raised high?

Aaya: 19

وَإِلَى ٱلۡجِبَالِ كَيۡفَ نُصِبَتۡ

19. And at the mountains - how they are firmly set up?

Aaya: 20

وَإِلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ كَيۡفَ سُطِحَتۡ

20. And at the earth - how it is spread out?

Aaya: 21

فَذَكِّرۡ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٞ

21. So keep on reminding 'them all O Muhammad', for you are only a reminder.

Aaya: 22

لَّسۡتَ عَلَيۡهِم بِمُصَيۡطِرٍ

22. You are not assigned to force them (to believe);

Aaya: 23

إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ

23. But whoever turns away and denies (the Truth of Islam),

Aaya: 24

فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡعَذَابَ ٱلۡأَكۡبَرَ

24. Allāh 'God' will chastise him with the greatest Chastisement.

Aaya: 25

إِنَّ إِلَيۡنَآ إِيَابَهُمۡ

25. To Us 'Allāh' they will surely all return,

Aaya: 26

ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا حِسَابَهُم

26. Then surely upon Us is their reckoning.
