[14]. Allāh grants humanity something of what we ask and all that we truly require, according to His perfect wisdom and mercy.
[15]. Although the Qur’an does not explicitly divide grace (faḍl or ni‘mah) into distinct categories, many Muslim scholars have reflected on its different dimensions to better understand the vastness of divine mercy. They describe Allāh’s grace as appearing through various aspects — Common Grace, Saving Grace, Purifying Grace, Sustaining Grace, and Complete Grace.
Each reflects a unique way in which Allāh’s compassion and favor reach His creation.
A. Common Grace
This is Allāh’s universal mercy and favor extended to all humankind, regardless of belief or disbelief. It includes the natural order, the provision of sustenance, the air we breathe, and the daily blessings of life that every human being enjoys.
It is the grace that sustains existence itself — a reminder that Allāh’s mercy encompasses all things.
“My mercy encompasses all things.” — Qur’an 7:156
B. Saving Grace
This is the grace that rescues individuals from disbelief and sin through faith in Allāh and in His final Messenger, Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ. It is the divine gift of guidance (hidāyah) that draws the heart to truth and safeguards one from spiritual ruin.
“And whomever Allāh guides — he is the rightly guided.” — Qur’an 7:178
C. Purifying Grace
This refers to the grace that refines and elevates the believer’s character, leading to moral and spiritual purification.
Through prayer, remembrance, repentance, and following the Prophet’s example ﷺ, the believer’s soul is cleansed, strengthened, and beautified with faith.
It is the continuous process of spiritual growth granted by divine mercy.
“He has succeeded who purifies it, and he has failed who corrupts it.” — Qur’an 91:9–10
D. Sustaining Grace
This is the grace that grants endurance, patience, and tranquility during life’s hardships. It strengthens the believer to remain steadfast in faith, to persevere through trials, and to find peace in trusting Allāh’s decree. It is the unseen aid that carries the believer when worldly strength falters.
“Indeed, Allāh is with those who are patient.” — Qur’an 2:153
E. Complete Grace
This is the ultimate perfection of divine favor — the final fulfillment of Allāh’s mercy when the believer is admitted into Paradise. It is the eternal reward of faith and perseverance, where all trials end and all desires are fulfilled. In this state, grace reaches its completion, and joy becomes everlasting.
“Their Lord gives them good news of mercy from Him, and pleasure, and gardens of everlasting delight.” — Qur’an 9:21
All of life is surrounded by the grace of Allāh — in creation, in guidance, in purification, in perseverance, and in eternal reward. Whether visible or hidden, temporary or everlasting, every moment of mercy is a reflection of His divine love and generosity. To recognize His grace is the beginning of gratitude; to live by it is the essence of faith.
[16]. This reminds believers that divine justice is certain, though not always immediate. Allāh’s delay is not neglect, it is part of His perfect timing. When oppression seems unchecked, this verse brings reassurance and perspective:
All deeds are seen. All accounts are preserved. And the Day will come when every injustice and wrongdoing meets its consequence.
For the oppressor, it is a warning; for the oppressed, it is a promise of vindication.
