42 : 5

42. [They are] eager listeners to falsehood, devourers of what is unlawful acquired. If they come to you [O Prophet], either judge between them or turn away from them. And if you turn away from them, they can cause you no harm at all. But if you judge, then judge between them with equity. Indeed, Allāh loves those who are equitable. info

43 : 5

43. And how is it that they come to you for Judgment, while they already have the Torah, in which is Allah’s own Judgment? Then they turn away [41] after that. And those are not (true) believers. info

[41].This also underlines the insincerity of the Jewish. How could the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) be hopeful that they would resort to and abide by his code of law when they were irreverent of the very code of law (the Torah) they outwardly and to all appearances subscribed to!

44 : 5

44. Surely, We sent down the Torah, in which there was guidance and light. By it, the Prophets who submitted themselves to Allāh judged of those who followed Judaism; and so did the rabbis and the scholars, as they were entrusted with the protection of Allah’s Scripture and they were witnesses to it. So do not fear the people, but fear Me alone, and do not exchange My revelations for a fleeting gain [42]. For whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed —it is they who are the disbelievers. info

[42]. Those who were entrusted with preserving the Scripture of God, the Torah, at the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ are especially cautioned not to make fear of influential people nor following their vain desires and greed put them off from fulfilling their task of safeguarding it against alteration and distortion. The guardians of Divine law should bear the fear of God first and foremost in their minds and not that of fellow men. They should pronounce the judgement of God as found in His Writ irrespective of the status or influence of the person who is affected by it. Nor are they to be swayed by bribes and worldly gains.

45 : 5

45. We ordained for them in the Torah that a life is for a life, an eye for an eye, a nose for a nose, an ear for an ear, a tooth for a tooth, and for wounds equal retaliation. But whoever remit it out of charity, it will be an expiation for him [43]. And whoever does not judge by what Allāh has revealed - it is they who are the unjust. info

[43]. A person who is wronged should not be led by anger or the urge for retaliation. Rather, the spirit of forgiveness is what Allāh loves and rewards abundantly. To pardon when one has the power to take revenge is a mark of true strength and faith.
