[53]. Prayer is singled out here because it is the most outwardly distinctive feature that defines the believing community and sets it apart from the unbelievers. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: The Covenant that stands between Us and them is the Prayer. Whoever abandons It, he has Committed disbelief. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that prayer is the covenant between Muslims and Allāh, and abandoning it is considered disbelief. He also said: "Between a man and disbelief and paganism is the abandonment of prayer".
